This is where you really f&*$ up your argument. Benefit how? If mainline pilots wouldn't have broken the first rule of unionized work "NEVER OUTSOURCE" then all these "little jets" would already be doing mainline flying with the associated payscale and benefits. Regional pilots have had their career expectations drastically attenuated due to mainline stupidity and arrogance.

Mainline pilots, devised and implemented their own demise. Undercutting the pilot profession by farming out their B scales to wholly different companies. Brilliant. The results have been 100% predictable.

I am as arrogant as the next pilot. But as a group the arrogance and cranius rectum of mainline pilots as a group--is staggering. My flying, my this, my that, mine. Mine. MINE!

We are all simply labor. And as a fragmented half assed unionized labor force, we don't own or control jack ********************.

First of all I agree with you that outsourcing all those jets was a dumb move. Extremely shortsighted to say the least. But read some mainline CBA's. They usually say all flying belongs to this pilot group/seniority list, however here are some exceptions for the duration of this contract. No regional owns their flying because none of them do their own flying. If ASA wants to go Independance and start their own airline, then the ASA pilots will own all their ASA flying. But they have zero claim to any Delta flying.

As for the "me me mine" implication, yes we do own some things sometimes and mainline pilots own all their flying. They permit some to be outsourced under certain conditions. Contrary to populist RJDC rhetoric, if ASA operated one 777 for one leg for one day say due to a special one time side letter signed by the Delta pilots for 24 hours only, they would not have permanant claim to 777 flying at Delta. The RJDC crowd clearly thinks that once flying is outsourced it belongs to the group that gets it otherwise there is a DFR issue. The courts disagreed.

Did mainline pilots hurt the profession? Absolutely, and they still are. But that can change. The first step is to stop further outsourcing. That can clearly be done. The next step is to start bringing it back. That also can be done, ala the BA-146 precident of several years ago. ASA used to operate those with 100 seats for Delta, now they do not and can not operate them for Delta. The Delta pilots have the right to take their flying back at any time they are willing to negotiate for it. The ASA pilots have no right or ability to bargain for one minute of Delta flying. Only ASA flying, which as of right now doesn't even exist.

Accept the terms of being an outsource provider or go independant and cut ties with Delta, United, etc. You can even dabble in both like ExpressJet, as long as you abide by the terms and conditions of the major airline pilot CBA's that set the terms for permitted outsourcing.
