Ok, so with Indy furloughing, and USAir regional carriers biting their nails, is there going to be a mass migration to Express Jet by the furloughed guys?

I know its all speculation, but will pilot positions still be available in April? I'll meet the multi minimums by then, and am looking forward to a possible job, but the recent furloughing is making me think they are going to all get sucked up and fill the 600 or so positions that express jet is trying to fill.

I understand I-Jets is furloughing about 300+ pilots. No doubt some will apply here and some will get hired. However, I would not let that stop me from submitting an application if you meet our mins.

oh wonderful...more drama during one of the largest hiring booms for xjt. I really dont think my 600/100 is going to get me anywhere now....

I need a beer....

come on guys lets not start another debate about paying dues and total time and such. Its a dead horse. Everyone is just trying to make their way and seize opportunity which is natural

No, not really a dead horse, or at least it shouldn't be. Whether or not one is up to the task goes to the very heart of the matter when it comes to hiring. What other method do we have to objectively quantify ones capacity and establish a baseline of experience?

Some friendly advice folks,

Don't let what other folks may or may not do sway your career making decisions, or allow you to become dejected. Concentrate on preparing for an interview and work hard on improving your airmanship and qualifications. In other words, worry about the stuff you can control.
Those of you with around 500 hours should be enjoying being an instructor. If you have to wait a bit longer for an entry level job, use that time to bolster your qualifications or try new direction with your flying.

Citabriapilot: XJT is a great place to work. Fantastic culture, and the flying is nice. Keep on plugging away, and when it's your time, it'll happen.

Best of Luck!

I really just boils down to patience doesn't it?? You get your commercial and you think you can fly anything. It took me 5 years from private to my first job.

Not all of you are like this but, this is how I see things happening lately...
All these 500-1000 hour guys want is an RJ. "Give me an Rj give me an RJ. I fly an RJ, I'm cool!" Then a year or two into an RJ and guess what; they start bitching about everything, and now they are leaving the regionals and starting to infiltrate the fractional/corporate world. And guess what, after flying with them in the corporate world, all I hear from them now is, "well, in the airlines we did it like this..."

I think there is alot to be said for patience, failure, and hard work. Getting a job into an RJ with 500 hours doesn't accomplish any of these character builders.

Pimpin,
My point is that it is a dead horse on this message board because the debate doesn't go anywhere and people tend to get critical of people they have never met or flown with. I am not arguing that a 600/100 guy should have a sense of entitlement but I would be willing to bet that you would have applied if you had that time and those were the minimums at the time because it is a good opportunity.

My furlough date for Independence is March 2nd. I for one am moving on and yes alot of my co-workers are moving on to other non airline jobs as well. Best of luck to you in your pursuit. No matter what anyone says on this board, if its your dream then follow it and make up your own mind...

Speaking of XJT, the other day I was on a Center Freq. and two people started having a conversation right on the frequency, for like, 3 minutes. This was a busy time around a Class B airport as well. What were they talking about!? XJT and who was getting hired and when this person was going to get a call! All I could think was, my God! Some people are just fanatical! Give it a rest, give yourself a rest! I myself remember freaking out at the prospect of employment and getting all worked up! But it isn't worth it, trust me! Enjoy yourself...

I had an overnight a couple of months back in SAV with a FLYI crew. Great group of people, I wish you all the best, and maybe we'll see some of you here at XJT in the next few months. We'll take good care of you!

True. However, it did sound like there was some degree of expectation in the original post that 600/100 should be enough. If it works out for a guy at that level of experience, great!

For someone at that point to expect that it will is the problem.
