Interesting idea. The utopians will need some big sails to push the Freedom Ship around though... nuclear reactors might be more practical, but then they'd have to deal with the enviro terrorists.

Kind of reminds me of Water World too.

I can see it now...Speed 3: Freedom Ship!

Starring Joshua Jackson, Jennifer Garner, and George Kennedy as "Joe Patroni."

FSI...now whats flight safety want to do with a boat? ...sounds to me like a government conspiracy in order to control the flow of cheesy poofs in and out of the country :p

Boy, there's a terrorist target if there ever was one. Good thing they're stopping in Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen.

Kaboom!

I watched a Discovery Channel show on that boat.... Thier biggest fear is if a tidal wave were to strike it. I wouldn't wanna be on it then!

What an interesting idea. However, only current or former Navy/Marine pilot's will be allowed to land there. Most regionals are rejecting the idea due to cost constraints of adding a tailhook to all aircraft :D Expect a new commuter to be started to service Freedom Ship. Northrop-Grumman is beefing up new production lines on a regional version of the venerable C.O.D.:p

I saw the discovery channel show on that ridiculousness as well. The next episode was a trans-atlantic bridge. Both fine ideas!!

Be sure to use the bathroom before you start that trip!

amazing, remember that guy who wanted to buy an island and do the extact thing this guy want's to except he goes 1 step futher and wants people to live on a ship.

Did a quick search, seems among other things they where talking about this very ship way back in summer 1998-99. By 2003 ship was supposted to be sailing by now..

http://www.ship-world.com/

From what i can find out this guy has no financial backing to undertake a project of this size and complete it. Another words its a BS

In 2007 he will be still talking about it lol

imagine if you will.....
a mystical place...
full of swill and shiit...
to go no place....

heh, imagine the sheer volumes of shiit that thing generates. what would it do with it all....would you have the exxon-blue-juice tanker pull along side?

Either that or you can follow it by the trail it leaves.

A mile-long barge with a high rise built on top? And they want to take it across the North Atlantic?

I'll look forward to seeing it on Engineering Disasters IV on the Learning Channel in a few years.

Bad idea all around. The ship would be a major target of opportunity for all manner of terrorists. A contest would start on who will be the first to attack it.

just weld a hook on a dash, it could handle it (look the pics even show dash'ish aircraft)

Sounds like a great way to bilk naive stupid investors out of great sums of money. I'm starting a company to dig a railway/car tunnel from Texas to China. Any takers?
