Flight Safety International have a well earned reputation, as an honest and respected training organisation.

I and many other pilots have obtained raiting from them.

However I see a disturbing trend.

They are providing type ratings to pilots who are incompetent, and unsafe.
I am sure that there is no connection to the bank balance or status of the client.

Would anybody like to refute my observations.

I’d say your observation is correct, but the reasoning behind it isn’t. Yes, FSI and SF and the rest do occasionally type an “unsafe” pilot. However I don’t think it’s an integrity issue. The simple fact is that all you have to do to pass the type ride perform to the PTS standards, is flying a precision and 2 non precision, plus single engine approach really all that difficult?

A type ride is the BARE minimum, that’s all!

If only it was that easy

The person in question can not actually control the aircraft for the duration of a check ride.....the sim instructors have spent perhaps 40 hours so far trying to bring this person to a standard to even take the pre test test....

Wow! That’s bad! I mean we’ve all flown with the “can I switch my sim partner” type of guy. And again I agree with you I would love to see the training organizations take a more “proactive” approach in weeding out those kinds of pilots.

However, I also understand the big corporate issues involved. The training is “to proficiency” for a good reason, imagine going to school and thinking you did fine, when “I’m sorry, but we’ll need another day to work on those steep turns, that’ll be $3000.” That would lead to a lot more integrity issues.

Surprisingly, they don't pass everyone. I know of one gentleman (deep pockets)that failed several times for a type rating. He finally had to go to an infamous type rating factory in Carlsbad, California to buy, -er, I mean get, - the type rating.

I agree, wish I could disagree but I just cannot. . Not only is it "disturbing" it is also a tad scary to see some of these FSI products first hand. If you got the money then you will get the type, pretty simple. I flew with one guy fresh off of his initial CJ1 type right when he got back and I didn't know whether to laugh or be concerned for the people who would be stuck in the back when he was flying alone. It was pretty comical though in more ways than one.

Funny. The DPE musta liked the guy's money. Did he do it in two or three tries?

The DPE liked the guy's airplane, which he used with other students to do their type rides.

Coincidence?
