Frontier Airlines Asks, 'Why Stay in the Bay When You Can See the Sea?'
Monday September 18, 3:46 pm ET Frontier Airlines Adds Direct Service From San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas , Fares on Sale Now Starting as Low as $248* Round-Trip
DENVER, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The good news for beach-bound travelers keeps on coming. Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: FRNT - News) is excited to announce direct service from San Francisco (SFO) to Cabo San Lucas (SJD), home to world-renowned shores and the Sea of Cortez. The new service, which will be aboard Frontier's new fleet of Airbus A319s with 33 inches of legroom and DIRECTV service and pay-per-view movies in every seat back, kicks off just in time for holiday travel on December 9, 2006. Beginning today, customers can purchase tickets between the two cities on FrontierAirlines.com with special introductory fares as low as $248* roundtrip.
This new service is the second significant service expansion for Bay Area travelers from Frontier, following the recent addition of five daily flights between SFO and LAX, featuring free DIRECTV and advance purchase fares starting as low as $49** each way.
Today's announcement follows the Denver-based airline's receipt last week of final authority from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin daily operations between LAX and Cabo San Lucas. The flight will originate in San Francisco with a stop of less than an hour at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and then on to Cabo San Lucas where travelers can take advantage of world class resorts and some of the best golfing in North America. In selecting Frontier, the DOT said, "We tentatively concluded Frontier's superior new-entrant competition and market structure benefits were pivotal in this case." The DOT added, "A selection of Frontier in this proceeding will have a positive impact on the overall level of competition, not only in the primary market, but also in the Los Angeles-Mexico market, as well as in the overall West Coast-Mexico market." This new flight marks the ninth Frontier city to offer direct or non-stop service to Mexico, joining San Diego, Los Angeles, Denver, Salt Lake City, Kansas City, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Nashville.
