frontier commuting

I'm considering applying to Frontier. Do they allow commuting from the east coast? Also, Are they considering any east coast bases?

They do not care where you live as long as you get to work when you are required to. I commute from MCO with no problem, they are looking more at LAX as a possible new domicile, an east coast base might not be for awhile, but if USAir go's bye bye, I think that we might open something like Charl, or Pit, who knows, but we are growing, more airplanes are comming, and we just got a 12.3% pay raise, pay rates are listes on airlinepayrates.com.

I am a getting ready to apply and had a few questions. How long have you been with Frontier? Are there a wide variety of people on board (age and background) or are there a lot of similarities i.e....military, corporate, masters degree...etc? What was the reason for the pay raise? When are you all do for another one? Are you happy with the operational culture? Where do you see the company 5 years from now.

Unless you have an internal recommendation from a buddy or two, don't waste your time applying. They are not going to call you without it, regardless of your qualifications.

Don't listen to "disgusted".... I applied several weeks ago online...with absolutely NO references from F9. I interviewed with several others in the same boat (online app with no internal LORs) and am here at F9 now. So go ahead and apply! Oh, we also have about 50% commuters in our class...several from the east coast and a few from the west coast. The word we got was that there were only about 600 apps on file in the computer system. I have no idea where the 10000 number came from. Good luck with the application/interview process!

Hey not to hijack the thread here, but do any of you Frontier guys know why 2 318s and the 737 diverted to KFNL instead of COS or CYS during the KDEN radar outtage Wednesday? Just seemed sort of odd, I assume its because the pilots might have known of FNL because they we're local guys? Wish I had seen the 318s up there, the shot on the front page showed the nose of one of them and the paint was already flaking bigtime.

In terms of customer care FNL has too many advantages to list, but I bet all those pax made it home before anyone else and that's a good ending to a bad day at DIA.

Ya, FNL is a pretty nice place. I know theyre getting that Allegiant flt 5 times a week now from LAS with the MD80. I'm sure the MD80 pilots we're superised to be joined by the Frontier birds.

I'm guessing the chipped paint was'nt on a 318, right?

The chipped paint was indeed on one of the A318s. Ive seen Frontier 732s with 10 year old paintjobs that had fewer chips than that 318.

Interesting sidenote, my friend talked with the CEO of Frontier Airlines (the CEO also workes at Johnson and Whales University, Denver, hence how my friend met him). Apparently if Frontier had been able to get a better financial loan, they would have gone with 737s. Joe (F9 CEO, cant remember his full name) said they're not to pleased with the Airbus and long term plan is to dump the Airbus and get Boeing's back into the picture when they can afford it financially.

F-9 is extremely pleased with the Airbus product. I can't imagine the CEO (Jeff) ever saying that. Boeing matched the Airbus offer after F-9 already signed with Airbus so the financial picture would have been the same. Most of the pilots would have prefered the NGs originally, but after transitioning to the A-319 most of the guys wouldn't go back, and the passengers prefer the Bus over the Boeing. I don't see ever going back to the Boeing, rather, I see adding other models of the Airbus family more likely.

Everyone I've talked to curses the Airbus, passengers and pilots alike. They may like the satellite on the new Airbuses, but I cant believe they like the trillion sounds and rattles those things have. I also heard recently from a ex UAL 744 captain about how its scary that pilots cant even override the Airbuses pos pc system.....

I'm not sure where you're getting your info but you ought to check it's accuracy before you post it...Your ex UAL 747 CPT obviously hasn't been through Airbus training - his comment just shows his ignorance about the plane! FWIW, all the pax I've encountered love the Airbus, as do most of the pilots.

As you progess with your career, you will find that most people are afraid of only two things: 1. The unknown, 2. Things in which they don't understand. Next time you hear anybody say they "hate" the Airbus, it is probably because they are afraid of it (see above). I have flown Boeing, Douglas and Airbus jets and though I have a soft spot for all of them, I can honestly say the Airbus is the best product in my opinion. And if I have to ride in coach, I'll take the Airbus every time, no question.

FWIW, my personal poll has shown a near 50/50 split on love/hate the airbus. There are many ways to view the debate but it's pretty tough to argue the merits of the fms on this thing. I understand it and it doesn't work as well as the boeing box. The maintenance guys are also not optimistic about its long term prospects. Its a POS.

My personal poll shows 98.6% absolutely love Airbus and really prefer it for safety and comfort.
