1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in command (PIC) or first officer (SIC) including a minimum 1000 hours PIC in fixed-wing jet, fixed wing multi-engine turbo-prop, or multi-engine recip over 20,000 LBGW or combination thereof.

Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.


So I would say yes it is possible, as long as you have the 1000 hours Turbine PIC from somewhere else. Also, you'll need a 4 year degree.

Qualified or competitive? Remember there are thousands of major airline pilots on furlough from US Air, United, and especially American, where 25% of the seniority list will be on furlough. For example, American's union gave the company a 25% compensation concession that now puts them even farther below the cargo carriers than they were before. I'm sure a vast majority of those pilots would gladly dump any potential future with U, UAL, or AAL for a chance to start over with a good company.

Actually, other than the minimums posted, the most important element in getting a call from FEDEX Express, is an inside rec. The closer they are to the CP, the better. Everyone in my interview group had at least 2 rec's from company pilots. They are somewhat anal about who you are, not just if you have the time. FedEx is somewhat like Delta, they want someone well rounded, although the psych test wasn't as intense. No database screening system in the world is as effective as someone in the company who knows you and is willing to go to bat for you. So, in short, get to know a FedEx pilot, and give him/her an opportunity to know you. And, if all goes well, you'll have a shot in no time.

Yeah, I know. I sent in an email to the pool list for FedEx about a month ago. It still doesn't reflect my input. I'm a new member here in this forum; so, hopefully they'll register me on the list this month. But as far as my interview, it was in June of '02 and we had five people in our interview group. 3 made it, two didn't. One didn't even make it past the sim check. The other didn't do well during the interviews. I should be in the top five as far as the list goes. Hopefully, with the bid this month, the 33 SO slots won't stay just "hedge" use. The way purple did in the first quarter this year, coupled with their projections for the second quarter, I'm hoping training starts up for us before the next bid in Spring '04.

This is NOT true at all. In my class exactly half were military background, the other half Civilian. Of the 12 Civilians, 5 came from regionals.

What you are flying is significantly less important than having someone to Champion your cause. Get someone who is willing to put his reputation on the line in support of you.

Fedex has pilots from all corners of the aviation world. Regionals, Commuters, Bush Pilots and Military Pilots.
