Are there any freight companies hiring in the southeast? ie: Flight Express, MAC, Ram Air Freight or Package Express Resumes have been out there for months without a peep. Is there any hope for this burned out CFI...

Jon210- with the recent resignation of a couple of Nashville Baron pilots, I believe upgrade is now down to 18 years!! Plus or minus a few weeks of course!! Hang in there dude. Some 210 pilots with at least 100 hours multi are going to Mesa(2 so far that I know of) and I think things are picking up in general. Mesa, TSA, Chautauqua, Co-ex, Eagle, Pinnacle, Horizon, ASA, Comair are all hiring at least on a limited basis or in the very near future (ASA). You can have my Baron spot in just a few weeks!!!! fly safe.

What do you want?

What is holding you to the southeast? Like 210fr8dog said there are a lot of companies hiring! Dallas is no exception! Just curious?

Tex

What's the payscale like at FE/ how much can one expect to make the first year? Is it calculated by duty/ flight time? Do most of the pilots start/ end their runs at 'base' or spend the week at some crash pad apartment?

Update: After viewing FE's website... is the pay strictly based upon duty time? It states a minimum of 19.5K..wondering what might be a good average though? Does the pay change much for year 2?/ flying the baron?

Being married with rugrats is holding me to the southeast somewhat, but willing to move for the right oppurtunity. Also I lke Flight Express a lot, I htink it is a very good company for what we do. Just gets frustrating waiting so long to fly the Baron. I have a little over 200 hours multi now so I hope maybe I will get lucky with a regional.
First year pay is from 19,500 to 36,000 a year. It is based on duty day. You get ten dollars per duty hour. Mininum pay of 7.5 hours a day and maximum of 14. Most runs seem to pay about 30,000 but it just depends. I had a minimum pay run for 3 weeks and then ended up with one that pays 35,000. Also, 2 dollar a day raise after 6 months, and 5 dollars a day more after one year, and two weeks paid vacation. As far as I know you always end up at home at the end of your duty.

Hmm, looks like a good company just glancing around the website. Is 1200 hours realistic for them? Anything else they look for besides total time? How sharp do you have to be on instruments? Any idea what city a new-hire will end up in? I guess if you're making 30,000 you are on duty 60 hours a week, right? Also, are the 210s deiced? Didn't look like there were boots on the one in the picture ...

Thanks!

Jon210 hit the nail on the head, I am married with a 9 month old so I can't stray to far from the homestead. Is Gary Hilyer still the recruiter at FE? Where are Planemasters and Northstars located and how do I get a res to them? Thanks for the info...

Flight Express

As far as bases go, there's no telling. One lucky new hire will be getting Little Rock in about three weeks when I leave!!

1200 hours is no problem as long as you meet the other mins for part 135. One new guy who just got to Kansas City has barely over 1200. One guy in my training class had 1194 and got the next 6 in training. His check ride was with 1200 exactly.

Be very sharp on instruments. The interview includes a sim ride solely for the purpose of determining if you know how to fly on instruments.

The 210s mostly have TKS for deicing. Works great!

The pay is determined by how long your duty day is for your run. And you may easily end up with a pretty well paid run on your first day. If you go to a single-pilot base like Little Rock, you will not be able to change runs without moving. If you go to one of the bigger bases like St Louis or Kansas City you can bid for a new run at the same base if it comes open. The most popular runs are the ones that involve 13-14 hours of duty, 3-4 hours of flying and the rest of the time asleep in some FBO. The bad news is that when you get your baron run after 10 years or so, you'll probably get a min pay run so get ready for a big pay cut. Oh well.

It's a great company and they've treated me well. If you want to work here, fax a resume to the number on the web site. It's also a good idea to call as well. If you haven't sent one lately, I'd send another because they are hiring. Good luck!

Gary is no longer the recruiter. Matt Harper is the person to send resumes to now, I believe but not 100% sure.

Planemasters is in TBR and GSP, Northstar is in MYR. Neither are hiring for these bases now but you never know when someone will find a better job.
There are quite a few cargo operators out of CAE in support of fed reserve, overnight delivery co., and labs. You might want to try there too if thats nearby.

At Flight Express the Director of Operations is handling the resumes. They are currently looking for 10 pilots to come in for a sim ride the beginning of January.

If hired on at Flt express, what is the likelyhood of being able to be based on the 210 out of ATL? What are the junior 210 bases?

There is no telling what bases will be available until the end of ground school. When I went through class 2 weeks ago, there was an ATL and TPA positions open, ut bye the end of the week when we got to pick, neither were available, so it is total luck of the draw on that day.

The interview process is very straightforward; sim ride in a A36. It uses 'digital steamguages' It is easy to read, but INCREDIBLY sensitive!! (Makes a Frasca seem stable). No surprises on the ride, just basic instrument skills..then a talk with the Director of Ops. Mostly personality stuff, very laid back.

I have been very happy with FE so far, but would also love to get back down to the south sometime soon

Flight Express is defintely hiring

Yes, Flight Express is definately hiring.
If you currently possess 135 minimums, and are looking to do alot of flying...you should definately forward your resume to the following person:

Ernst Anderson
Director of Operations

Since things are starting to get busy with the regionals...baron upgrade time should start to come down. In the last 30 days alone, FE has lost more than a dozen pilots to the regionals.

The opportunity is there if you are hungry enough. Don't expect a Florida base. Most will go to CPS, LUK, MKC, ATL first. Then again, at our present rate of attrition...who knows?

The check flying business should be available until late next year. Check-21 legislation was signed into law last October. All banks in this country must comply by October 24, 2004. Don't let anyone kid you. Even the execs at Enron put on a happy face until the day the company imploded. (more about that some other time)
Between now and then you can get gobs of time under your belt.

Good luck!

A dozen? are you sure Dan? Thats cool if it's true. I know of only 4 but thats just in my part of the country, too. I know I'm one of 'em so yeeeeehhaaaaaa!!!! It's been a hell of a ride but it's time to move on. Fly safe.

Jeff

I've just received a call from Flight Express. I'm just wondering how the interview and the sim ride are. I already checked aviation interiew.com. It didn't have too much detail. thanks ahead of time
