Watching CNN this morning and it was reported that Delta's F/As and Pilots will no longer get a free meal (ones that the pax get). Guess they'll have to use that per diem now. Sure to boost morale too!

If a Delta pilot's morale suffers because he/she has to use their per diem to buy meals (my god...you mean actually use per diem for the purpose that is was intended?...Waaaah!), then they truly ARE living in a fantasy world and need to retire pronto. Yep, I feel pretty sorry for people who are still getting a free lunch at an almost bankrupt company, using money given to them up and above their salary to buy something as novel as lunch.

But heaven forbid they would actually have to do this out-of-pocket pretty much like the rest of the world does. Now, THAT would be a real morale-crusher! Given that the highest-paid wide-body captains are also the stingiest people on the face of the planet, this sure puts a damper on them demanding those uneaten cookies and sandwiches to squirrel away in thier flight case to be consumed later in their hotel rooms.

Don't worry about the F/As though. They're resourceful, and will undoubtedly find a way to nibble.

Before we start slammin on crew meals, I have gotten two in my five years at ASA. The first I accidently stole from a 727 crew when I was doing an E120 Nap and I thought that the Company was just taking care of us. The other I got on a charter flight.

If the airline is going to run 30 minute turns all day long, crew meals do a lot to help keep the operation on time. It is not the money. It is the fact that nothing much gets done on an ASA flight without the crew on board. A $5 box lunch is much more productive than having an $18,000,000.00 jet and 50 people waiting on a First Officer in line at Wendy's.

I support the Delta pilots on the crew meal issue and think it would be smart for other parts of the "portfolio" to be provided with them also.

Of course, I would be a little afraid to eat anything that ASA had a hand in preparing. They already tell us that our pilot force is too senior and that having more turn over would be good for the bottom line..

The post was about DAL, not ASA, and I'm sure they aren't doing 30 minute turns all day long and have meal times provided for in their contract. Even the pudknocker airlines I've worked for had that.

Last week I had 7.75 hours of flying with no less than 5 legs. No layovers longer than 34 minutes.

So your pudknocker airline doesn't provide for it, like my pudknocker airlines did. Or did I miss the news that DAL is now operating Jungle Jets? The post was about Delta, and my bet is that they are provided time for meals.

You lose that bet. 50 min turns and no time alotted for meals. If you are hungry, try and squeeze time at the Chick-fil-A as you change gates from A2 to E5. If the flight ends up late, so be it.

That's always been our MO here at ASA. If you need/want food, just tell ops
you will be gone and the next flight will be delayed. I could care less if they
get pissed off.

"I'm sorry, sir....we're out of chicken"

Delta.....

.....turning FA's into thieves.

Then they can legally fire them and decrease costs even more!

Beware those "galley-cams"....

Hahahahahahaha!

Amen! Just another "Crew Delay."

You can't find something to eat during a 50 minute turn? Oh that's right, you're used to being served!

But c'mon, you're intrepid Delta pilots from down thar in Hotlanta. What more do y'all need 'cept for a bag of pork rinds and some Coke? And surely your 3rd wife or at least your mistress can pack you a paper bag full of Moon Pies for the longer flights?

Hey man I am just wondering DID YOU GET PICKED ON ALOT WHEN YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL?.................

There's good ole Cataayyaaak again, the burned out corporate pilot who was stuck in coach on a transatlantic Delta flight once since his employer didn't think he was WORTH business elite. Yeah, we know how he feels about Delta and our crews. Too bad, really. You gotta pity the guy/girl, he/she seems miserable.

As far as the stews go, he is right about one thing, they will find a way to nibble on something.

Bye Bye--General Lee

No problem, crew meals are junk anyway!! (I don't work for DAL, But I still get crew meals) consider how long it takes you have to stand in line to get your Pizza Hut Mini Pizza, Taco Bell or Burger King burger. I would suspect more than a few DAL flights will leave late because the crews are spending thier per-diem.

In my humble opinon the policy change is penny-wise, pound foolish. People are not machines.

I remember reading somewhere -perhaps it was here- that a while back some airline bean counter thought that it would be a good idea to charge crews for drinks....every time the pilots bought a soda, they'd run the throttles up to the stops for several seconds...the policy was discontinued when management finally caught on.

General! Thank goodness you're okay! After not seeing you here for awhile and reading this "Delta pilots forced to spend their per diem on a meal" thing, I was beginning to worry that perhaps you'd starved and your carcass was lying unnoticed somewhere near a perimeter fence at Hartsfield, bloating in the Georgia sun and assuming the sickly hue of Song terminal decor. Just imagine my relief and celebratory mood now that you've chimed in!

But this isn't about me....I'm still lovin' life, eating huge free made-to-order meals at work, and avoiding Deep Vein Thrombosis by avoiding your flights Foreign and Domestic..... it's all about you, man. It's a Delta Pilot's World after all, and the rest of us are just livin' in it.

So now that I've confirmed you're alive, and in light of this latest DAL news, I can get back to doing what I was doing before.... searching EBay for that antique, now-much-sought-after "Dukes of Hazzard" lunchbox (complete with matching thermos!) I was going to suprise you with. Just as sure as Sherman marched to the sea, you'll be the envy of everyone in the crew lounge with that baby in your hand!

But darn, I see I've spoiled the suprise. Oh well, not to worry General, I'll ship it pre-stocked with something extra special that'll cause you and your compadres to start salivating like a pack of Pavlov bluetick hounds hearing the church bells ring to celebrate a surrender at Appomattox.

Sniff....sniff....saaaay...is that boiled okra I smell?
