I don't know of any straight-up free flight tracking services, but FBOWeb will come out every once in a while with a free trial subscription for a week or so. The service costs $9.95 a month. Go to their site and register with your e-mail and you may get their promotional offer.
Fltplan.com also has a service for $14.95 per month. They will not even consider giving away a trial period of service. After trying out FBOWeb for free, I asked Fltplan.com what they had to offer over FBOWeb. There really isn't much, but I believe Fltplan's free flight planning and navlog service is worth the 15 bucks a month alone, without the tracking.
Both services allow you to see an airports arrivals and departures. FBO has a beta-graphical depiction, which is nice. Both will e-mail you for proposals, departures and arrivals. FBO will give you unlimited historical data on any aircraft, including VFR with flight following. FltPlan gives you 7 days on only aircraft in your profile (limited to 10). FBO includes a feature to see the registered owner of any aircraft being tracked, FltPlan does not. I think FltPlan.com's tracking service could be improved, but they do have free 800 customer support and a wonderful free planning service.
I use a awesome flight tracker. It is called fboweb.com, and if you have not seen it, you should check it out. It does have a cost involved to use some of its features, but it is under $10 per month.
You can track GA aircraft up to commercial aircraft. It has a feature that allows you to have a traffic summary of the airport of your choice by identifier, which is pretty neat, showing you planned arrivals, arriving, planned departures, and departing.
You can also track in real time, (2 second intervals) a aircraft by it's tail number. You can zoom in and see exactly where they are with mapping.
You can also view all IFR,and VFR flights for the aircraft, and old history, so you can see just how much that aircraft you use to fly is flying. You can check out your competition too...see where and how often they are flying.
I love it, nope most of its features are not free, but for less than $10 per month, you get a lot of bang for your buck!
