Mark Haines intro'd him as "the man who brought a whole new meaning to labor relations" (that's sort of close to a quote).

He did say that Delta's labor costs are 44% of revenue, while Airtran's are about 24% of revenue and that will have to change.

I found it more enlightening when the local Tampa news this AM reported that Dominoes Pizza will be raising their prices due to high fuel costs. Maybe their CEO could run an airline. We'll have to wait and see how Pizza Hut responds......

Compare U.S. companies to Japanese companies...

In the U.S., when a company goes into bankruptcy or fails entirely, management stands there and blames the employees. Then they jump off the stricken aircraft and pull the chord on their golden parachute. On the flipside, if the company does good, management congratulates themselves with yet -another- bonus and the employees had nothing to do with it.

Contrast that with Japan. Failures there mean the company executives stand in public, heads lowered and publicly admit that the buck stops with them and they take full blame. They apologize to their employees for their (management's) incompetence. When something goes well, they praise and reward their employees.

We operate in an arena where politicians are bought and paid for by Big Business. This incestuous relationship just tightens the graveyard spiral our society finds itself in.

I don't think many of you would find the Japanese way all that great of deal. Their view of business is definitely different and in some ways scary. One big difference is that reverse engineering and marketing that goes on.

There way of looking at things would have invented deregulation and Southwest creation.
