Why don't you believe it.. Do you think it's a coincidence than many airline pilots own their own small aircraft? That guy wasnt jerkin your chain..

Stay at the engineering job. There is so much fun to be had in aviation outside of scheduled service. Learn to soar. Be a hobby CFI. Build an airplane.

Flying to Tokyo isn't fun, it's work... that's why they pay you for it. If it was fun, we'd do it for free.
