Here in DFW, almost every day for the last week there's been in the news a major incident involving parents leaving their children in cars in 90-100 degree weather. These people themselves probably wouldn't sit in a closed car with no airconditioning in the sun for a couple hours...why do they think it's okay for their kids?

Is it time to start sterilizing people based on IQ yet???

YEA!

Guilty parties in these types of acts of negligence should be subject to a BLACK AND DECKER DOANS PILL.

A couple of years ago we had a lady leave her child in the 110+ car while she went in the casino to gamble. The child died. She tried suing the casino claiming it was they who caused her addiction to gambling, so it was their fault her child was dead. Thankfully, the local judge tossed that suit out the instant it hit his bench!

We had that happen here in South Florida. Now the lady is sueing Walmart for not having enough checkout people. She claims she was forced to wait in line too long. When she got to the car her 2 year old was in cardio. Amazing isn't it.

It's a shame we have a justice system that entertains these "I'm not responsible/it's somebody else's fault" lawsuits. Oh well, keeps the law professionals off the streets.

Where I live it is illegal to leave a child in a car unattended. You can get charged with neglect or abuse.

It is sad, but some people just do not care. I would never leave my child locked in a car in any weather conditions, much less 90-100 degree weather, that is just dangerous!

No surprise...anything seems to go in Florida..
WHITE TRASH capitol of the USA.

Hey, wait a minute! That's like saying everybody from San Francisco is gay.

Besides, you're not giving Arkansas any credit! :D

I still believe the govt should test people before they give them the right to have kids.

Most parents would fail miserably. I work for the school district. I'm not a parent yet but I see things that just shock me.

I've seen parents drive to school at lunch time with happy meals from McD's every other day.

Gee, I wonder why little Chubby is a little too chub for his age?

The district is in an upscale area as well with 3br homes costing $400k. So it isn't like parents can't afford to buy some bread, jelly and peanutbutter and make a decent meal for their kids. Heck, let the kids make their own like I had to!

first: Arkansa is the heartland of white trash america. Florida is snowbird country.
second: I don't know what's going on with kids. Last night at 10 the police officer here in the appartment complex near DFW is closing the pool for the night, a bunch of 17/18 year olds don't like that to much and start calling him all the names you hear in a rap song, including the racial slurs. Of course the cop fetches the one with the loudest mouth, a 17 year old girl and arrests her. She is kicking him and now there is also assault on the rap sheet. Turns out later she has 2 kids and another one in the making. And then daddy shows up because he is...... you might have guessed it...... a lawyer! What went wrong with her upbringing?
These kids having kids just have no sense of responsibility (otherwise they wouldn't have the kids in the first place), lets not even talk about common sense. If somebody doesn't tell them what to do, they won't do it and not even think about what consequences their actions might have
I remember last year the girl in FtWorth who went to her job at an appartment complex and was going to drop her kid off at daycare (and never did). At lunchtime she was looking at a fried baby and some jailtime.

We have our share of white trash in Minnesota that leave the kids in the car to bake during the summer. It never fails, they always just forgot. Its strange that I'm 40 and lived here all my life and I never heard of someone leaving their kids in the car during the winter to freeze to death...

OUCH!! Aren't we a little tooo BITTER!

Being a pilot, traveling around the country, I can think of a few other places worse. But I guess maybe you had an ex-wife from FL that took you to the cleaners or something. ;)

My wife works for Dade County Schools as a Speech Therapist with mostly mentally disabled kids. She gets so frustrated when parents don't respond to her calls about their kids. Public schools is just one big daycare for some.

Back when I was in school, I wish my Mom would have brought over some Mickey Ds. A helluva alot better then the "food" school served. But I can see your point about little chubber!

It's not just cars

Since it's Africa Hot Season in Phoenix, everyone's got their pools fired up, while leads to the almost daily child drowning in an unattended swimming pool. It's bad when the state government has to pay for a media blitz to remind people that unsupervised kids and pools don't mix well.

Peace,
DP

Somebody kills a kid just about every summer here in the Memphis area. Often, it happens during daycare transportation-"I forgot the kid was in the van!"
