I learned early on when starting using ForeFlight about a year and a half ago that the logbook feature was concerning. Some know logbooks are near and dear to my heart and I hate seeing something like ForeFlight potentially lead a pilot to have a highly inaccurate logbook. Their "out" is that the logbook entries are labeled as a "draft" but I know people that take these drafts for actuals and commit the draft time to their logbook.

This evening I flew two flights, a 0.8 and 0.5 per my Garmin G3X which uses Hobbs to calculate the Flight log values. I opened ForeFlight for some reason curious as to what it logged for flights:

So as you can see from above the times are not even close. I realize ForeFlight is tracking your movement on the airfield and for me that could be a drive to check the windsock by the FBO, a walk to the bathroom, etc.

I suggest those that are taking these drafts and saving to your logbook should track your engine start and stop clock times and comparing the values to realize how inaccurate these drafts can be.

If you go to Logbook > Settings > Total Time Calculation

You can set your preference to any of these:

Hobbs, Tach, Block, Flight or Duty Time

You can also trim you track logs before creating the logbook entry.
