Well good friend, I think you are the first person to say somethingpilotyip said:Last year in Nov 03 Ford Flt Dept eliminated two pilot positions, took the last two hired in the spring of 03 and gave them a one-day notice. Not a lay off, not a furlough, just eliminated no recall rights. One was a former USA Jet DC-9 Capt. who took a pay cut for the Corporate security. Auto big three companies are shrinking and will be moving more manufacturing off shore to remain competitive. I think those flight depts peaked some year’s back. I would think twice before I left a good job to go to the bottom of the list at an auto company.
intelectual about this subject.
I think some of these folks are clueless about the automotive trade.
It has been said that soon, none of the American named cars will
be manufactured in this country in a few years.
I am a layed off corporate pilot who has good flight time, experience,
type ratings, international experience and have only done this type of
work for years and years.
The only people that will respond to my resume are the commuter airlines.
They are begging for someone with grey hair to be seen on occasion in
their cockpits. But I am different than the young man who wants to fly for
FORD. At the few flight departments that I have interviewed at, I found that
most of the pilots are in their 30 and 40 and want nothing to do with hiring
pilots older than they.
It is a fact that a corporation will not hire you if they don't like the last
company that you worked for.
There are thousands of airline boys walking the street. They are now first choice to the corps. So, for the young boy, sit back and relax. If I can't get
a job at Ford, why should you son?
Just for the records, I have never owned anything but a Ford.
I wonder how many of you Ford bashers would be quiet just to get
a shot at a flying job at Ford.
Peace.......
