Do they have a refrigerator/freezer in your hotel room during training- obviously I am looking to save some money.

Do you need to bring your logbooks with you on the first day of class?

I apreciate any info from people currently in training at CAL or people who have went through recently- thanks in advance!!

One more thing- are you able to get internet access in your hotel room for free or do you have to pay?

Formula - my room does not have a frig/freez however some others do. It's hit or miss.

You don't need your logbook.

You do have free internet access so you can surf porn and chub up to your heart's content. Oh yeah, you can also access your computer academics in your room...I guess that is helpful too.

By the way - how about Alonso going to McLaren? I think that is a stupid move, especially since the reliability sucks. And Ferrari won't be the same without Shumacher - however I think Kimi will kick some serious a$$ (at least I hope so). I'm a die hard Formula 1 fan myself...

Good luck.

There used to be a guy who would rent you a microwave and fridge for around $25 a month. He's a Houston based flight attendent doing the rental thing on the side, ask around the training center someone probably has his number. Good Luck! and have fun.

P.S. Papa deaux's for the lunch buffet is the way to go if you get tired of microwave burritos.

Yes, me too!! I am looking forward to the beginning of the new F-1 season- will be interesting without Shcumacher around. It was time for him to move on. He has almost as much money as Oprah Winfrey (somewhere around 1 Billion dollars) it was definietly his time to go.

I will keep my fingers crossed on having a fridge in the room. Maybe I will get lucky.

Anyone know the equipment breakdowns for the next few classes?

It depends what hotel you are going to stay at. If your paper work says the Mariott that could change at the last moment to the La Quinta or the Sofetel.

I am at the La Quinta and have a fridge and micro, most people do unless some are broken and they don't have any at the moment. The staff a La Quinta are very nice, I have not had any problems. You also have free internet, not the fastest but good, slows down at night because so many people are on it! You also get free breakfast in the morning and USA Today!

You do not need your log books but bring Passport and Cert. and copies like they ask. Also bring a check so you can sign up for direct deposit for payrol if you want. You might bring info for anybody that you are going to put on your benifits, you can do this at any time.

Their isn't a grocery store close by, but the hotel will take you their but better off if someone has a car and they are nice!

One word on the CBT's, they have a program that you can download so you can do the CBT's on your own computer, the only draw back for some people is it does not work on Mac's!

Their is not a whole lot of class room work, somewhat self directed with the CBT's , ask questions when you need too!

I think Kimi might finally have a car that will stay together to win a championship! I am hoping Speed will have a better car this year to show that he deserves to be there. I also think Alonso made a mistake going to Mclaren.

I'm staying at the Marriott. They will bring you a fridge if you ask and everybody is very nice! They drove me to a Kroger my first day here, I got enough food for a few weeks, then rented a car a few weekends into when my wife came down and we got some food for another few weeks. What they Marriott won't give you is a microwave, they have one in the laundry room though. The workout facility is top notch and they have a crew computer in the business center (which I've spent a lot of time on). They will also give you internet access in your room (for free, as long as you're in training) if you bring your own computer.

They have lunch everyday at the training center catered by some local place. It's usually about $6 for not horriable food. It's hit or miss though. I have occassionally gone to the airport for food, since the Marriott is in between the B and C terminal, you are pretty close to whatever airport food you want.

You actually don't need to bring a voided check, you can just type in your account numbers into the computer. Bring you're parents birthdates for non-rev stuff....along with your kids/spouse birthdates too.

I brought my log books and haven't opened them yet in the 6 weeks I've been here. It may be a different story when I'm in sims though.

They will positive space you home (and only home, they won't fly you to your in-laws or anyplace but where you live) whenever you have more than 48 hours off. They always put you on the standby list for first class too....I've only gotten it a few times but it's a nice gesture.

Good luck and I'm glad to have another few guys below me senority. By the way, there are two 777 slots in every class starting Jan 9th through the end of Feb.

Very Nice!! I know that the 777 and the 2 years of being on reserve for a new hire has been talked about already on this board but it is still cool to know that there would be a couple of slots available if one so desired to bid it and could hold it.

Anyways, thanks to all for the info on the hotels during training and the microwaves and the refridgerators.

Insurance Costs

I am single with no kids- I am curious how much ($) out of pocket for insurance both for the first 6 months and after the first 6 months?

I know they have a separate insurance plan that is offered for the first 6 months.

Just a minor caveat about logbooks. I believe if you do not have an ATP that you need to have your logbooks for your MV/LOE.

I got an individual plan with Kaiser Permanente for $97/month to fill the gap. It was pretty much the same as the KP plan I had with XJT and much cheaper than COBRA. I think it's only available in certain states though.
