Is Guam just another domicile like Houston or Newark, i.e. can anyone just bid it so long as they have the seniority to hold a line?

Yep, Guam is just another base. I was hired by CAL the first part of last year and quite a few people were volunteering to go there. Now people are being forced there due to downsizing. They operate Boeing 737-800s out of Guam.

You better buy some COBRA insurance cuz CAL doesn't give it to newhires.

If you are based in GUM, you receive insurance. In the other bases you have to cough up for COBRA or major medical (which is what most of us did and is complete BS) for the first 6 months. We will have health insurance from day 1 in the new contract. I'm certain of that.

A first year pilot who is based in Guam will be paid at second year pay rates and get a $1500 a month cost of living override. This along with all the flying at the 737-800 pay rate, Guam ends up being a pretty good deal the first year.

The Guam foreign base allowance is $1100/mo. 2nd year pay from the get go.
Guam has a very high cost of living however so remember to factor that into the "good deal".
