On a lighter note than my previous threads yesterday and today.

When on earth are we going to get a playoff for college football. I am not a fan of theirs but personnally I think USC is playing the best football right now. Of course those UGA's fans might disagree, not to mention Miami. Your thoughts.....

Why football....I have never flown this time of year without talking about it in the cockpit! So I thought it applied on this forum.

Although I enjoy reading most of the discussions it is a nice break to read and talk about something less serious.
Being in Florida, haven't seen much of USC. If I remember correctly they beat ND and killed UCLA at the end of the year. Seems like over the last few years the left coast teams haven't dominated the top ten.
My take is Miami will be number one because I think they'll pound #2 OSU. OSU struggled against Purdue and some other middle of the road team.
OU looked really good in the championship game against Colorado but they've got two(?)losses.
Haven't seen much of Georgia either. The SEC was hurting this year when compared to last few years. Glad to see them spank Arkansas though!
While their (1-10) record was a bit deceiving, the University of Buffalo Bulls may have gone 2-9 if it weren't for some key injuries. On a prophetic professional football note, don't look for the Arizona Cardinals to be in the playoffs this year. If you need any stock tips, I'm available.
Looking forward to the bowl games. Orlando is hosting two. May try to make it to one or both. Then on with college basketball!!

I think the right two teams are in the Fiesta bowl. I'd like to see a play off but the Bowl games make too much money for the NCAA to give up.

As for who is playing the best right now, we should throw Kansas State's hat into the ring (I'm a KSU fan so I have to say that). But really, you have to admire a team that says "Our game plan is this, run right, run left, run right again" and then does it so well noone can stop it.

Look out next year, they get most of their key players back.

Arizona? How about the AFC? Now that is tight football. Who will win the Conference? Oakland, SD, Denver, Indy, Tenn, NYJ, Miami and NE are all tight contenders. Only 3 weeks left and it's all up for grabs, I love this sport. My vote is for New England, they are very hot right now and in the exact same spot they were in last year. Monday night they will beat Tenn on the road, and will beat NYJ and Miami at home to win the AFC East and a first round bye. Sorry to shift gears from the NCAA. One more prediction...Larry Johnson will win the Heisman. Have fun with this one.

You can argue that USC might be playing the best football right now, but Miami and Ohio State have played the best football over the entire season. A combined 25-0, I think it's tough to argue against this game regardless of some close calls- like Purdue, FSU and Rutgers (first half anyway)

These teams played ball all year and haven't been beaten. No other teams can argue that.

(ok, I'll confess. I'm a Buckeye alum.)

GO BUCKS!

My only arguement with that is just look at MLB this year. No Yanks, Arizona, Atlanta Oakland etc... in the WS. Basketball...that is what makes March Madness so incredible. You can go 33-0 during the season, but you still must win 6 games in a row at the end! I just don't think teams should be penalized for having a tough schedule...ie USC # 1 in the nation. Playing a bunch of patsies all year isn't good for football in general. Before you slam that last statement I was not pointing the finger at OSU specifically. My hats off to OSU for going 13-0, and they certainly deserve a shot at the title under the current system!

I'd love to see an 8 team playoff, but I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. The bowls claim that a playoff will cheapen all the other non-playoff bowl games - which is pretty much true. It'd be worth it in my opinion, but money talks, and thus the bowls have the power.

I'm just happy to have the KSU monkey off our backs. Friggin Wildcats. :D

It's 2:47pm, and OU STILL SUCKS!

I believe there's a certain midwest team that's poised for a resurgence that will lead them to title contention in the near future. They're 10-2 and not playing the best ball but they're playing the best with what they"ve got and will kick USCs butt next year.
The fact that I'm of Irish heritage is merely coincidental and does not cloud my vision of this greatest of all programs.

I think the BCS actually turned out reasonable this year. Teams have been screwed in the past. I don't know if playoffs are the thing for college... they would have to shorten the season a bit.

The BCS did ok this year but, whats up with Notre Dame? Are they with the Big East conference or not? The way I see it West Virginia got screwed out of some big bucks because the BCS snubbed Notre Dame. As a result they pushed WV out of the Gator bowl and into the Continental Tire bowl. That cost WV almost a cool million. I would like to see a playoff of some sort but like most of you have already pointed out, its the money that talks. ....now on to Basketball season!!

....and, although this is the Aviation Message Board, what else besides flying and job issues do crews discuss during cruise? Thus, making football an aviation topic.

To lend further credence to this argument, Denver Broncos kicker Jason Elam has a Commercial certificate. Dan Dierdorf is a pilot, too.

I thought the idea of the BCS was to set up a playoff system. I don't understand the ratings. They still need to work out the kinks in it.

I never was much of an O.U. fan until I moved to Oklahoma. The radio station for which I was working was the O.U. flagship station. I participated in the broadcast in one capacity or another for five years and got caught up in the hoopla. I kind of lost interest when I moved to Arizona, but that was the time when Barry Switzer brought in those rapists and other criminals to play for him. Since I've been back in Colorado, I've pulled for C.U. At least I could dislike Nebraska in both states! :)

No doubt about it, though O.U. has an excellent team. C.U. was flat, or something, during the Big-12 playoff, despite the yardage gained on the ground.

Really, the school was an excellent program in Colorado is Colorado State. They are competitive every year and go to a bowl every year. I give Sonny Lubick credit for staying in Fort Collins when, I'm sure, he could go to more glamorous programs.

The Broncos mathematically are still in the playoff race, but they're going to need plenty of help. And, Brian Griese needs to stop making so many bad throws. That's been his tendency, I think because he doesn't have the arm strength. As a Denver fan for forty years I hate Oakland and Al Davis, but the Raiders have a good team this year. I hate the Chiefs maybe more, but they do have a good offense. I think that Mike Shanahan can beat a Greg Robinson-coached defense, especially with Ray Crockett at corner.

fly4spous,

BY who??????????????

at 5-7 I don't think they are going anywhere

Looking at MYFpilot's avatar, I think I need to jump on the Aztec bandwagon. That girl on the left is my future wife!

kicked your aztec butts, didn't we? what was the score again?

Maybe so but lets take look at the Mountain West overall stats

Team W L T
---- - - - --- --- ---
Colorado State...... 6 1 0
New Mexico.......... 5 2 0
Air Force........... 4 3 0
San Diego State..... 4 3 0
Utah................ 3 4 0
UNLV................ 3 4 0
BYU................. 2 5 0
Wyoming............. 1 6 0

...And we'll beat you twice this year in Basketball.

All are always welcome on the Aztec bandwagon.

The right two teams are playing for the national championship and I think the rest speaks for itself. No matter what you can say about OSU or MIA they still earned the right to be there as well as deserving it. Even with a playoff system people will still find many faults with it.

3 5 0

I just went to the SDSU site and clicked on "meet the team" in the cheerleading section. Very nice. I would love to meet the team if I wasnt married.

You are right the Dawgs to deserve to play OSU. And USC should play Miami for the national title:D

Bottomline....gotta have a playoff!! NO other alternative. Take the "suits" out of it and play it on the field!!
