Fokker 100 info please

Hi there. I was just informed that I am going to be rejoining the ranks of the flying!!!:) Just got a job flying a Fokker-100 and was hoping that some of you Fokker guys could give me some tips on flying it. While I've got a fair bit of time, 7200hrs and lots of turbine, this is my first jet. As far as I know, all the ones we have purchased have the -650 engines on them.
Any little tricks on power settings for approach, tricks for engine failures etc. would be GREATLY appreciated.

For Jetsgo? Will you be based in BC or YYZ?

Yup its for Jetsgo. As far as I know all the Fokkers are going to be based in YYZ. There is alot of expansion being talked about so you never know where new bases may spring up!! It will be hard to leave the west coast but you have to do what you have to do!!
 
The 100 is a great airplane. It has autothrottles so the power setting isnt a problem. Just set the speed and it does the rest. It is a little loud in the cockpit for the packs underneath you. In the summer it is hot in the back but comfortable up front. Once you get used to operating the autopilot and the fmc you will love it. It was the first jet I flew also and easy transition. I think I have about 1800 hours in it. I miss flying it. Good luck with class.

I fly a Fokker 70, which is a 100 that is 15 feet shorter. It is truly a great all around airplane, one of the best that I've flown. It is a very docile and nice flying airplane. The automation and systems integration is excellent for an airplane that was designed in the 80's, even better than some new airplanes today. PM me with any specific questions.

I have only heard great things about the Fokker 70/100. I know guys who currently fly 757s and 737-800s but really PREFERRED flying the FK100 earlier in their careers - even though it is a little slow...

I have heard rumors that the current Fokker-parts manufacturer Rekkof (Fokker spelled backwards) is considering starting up Fokker manufacturing again and it is seeking large orders/commitments from Lufthansa and another carrier before tooling up. Anyone else heard that rumor? Seems the Fokker might be preferred vs. more expensive large and new regional jets by some carriers...
 
I flew the F-100 for 4,997 hr and think it is a nice plane. The FMS is different than a boeing, but once you get used to the European Philosiphy you will love it .In the summer run the a/c full cold and don't get behind on the cabin temp. or you will play hell getting it cool again,start the Apu before landing that way you won't have to wait for two min to get air with the engines at idle. We called it the Dutch OVEN. Yes it is slow but I didn't mind it gave you more time to read aircraft specific reading material......Congrats 0n the jet job are they hireing more????

They are hiring more pilots but its a canadian company so I think most of you guys would be ineligible for a full time spot. They are hiring some contract guys for training captains though until we get out own guys up and running. Not sure if they have filled all the spots they need or not. Could be something to look into if you are laid off and have some captain time on the machine. The job posting was on hollandcanadaline.com Maybe this can help someone out there.

One question for you. Did you have to pay to get a type rating on the F100 or pay to get this job? I remember something about the Jetsgo MD83 guys having to get a type first. Just curious.

You have to come up with a training bond that they pay back with interest over a 2 yr period. As long as you stay the 2 yrs it costs you nothing. If you decided to bolt to greener pastures before that, then you forfeight what ever is left owing.
 
Thanks BC Flyer. I jumpsat on an AA F100 pre-9-11 and I thought it was really nice. It was a tad bit slow compared to other planes, but the cockpit was nice and the tail cone speedbrake was also interesting---I think they opened it up on short final. I can't remember if they had thrust reversers---I am pretty sure the F28s did not. It was a nice plane, though. Have fun.

Nice plane the FMS is more Airbus than Boeing. Easy to fly, will fall out of the sky with that awesome speed brake in the tail so it is impossible to get too far behind it. FYI, maybe it was me but the brakes were touchy, it took some time to get used to them and keep it straight on the landing roll or during an RTO. Could have used autobrakes considering how advanced it was overall. Enjoy it!
 
Sounds like the brakes on the F/O side of the Dash-8!!! Thanks again for all the info guys. I can't wait to get back to flying!!!
