I'm taking my 7 month old infant nephew flying soon. Anybody taken an infant up? Any tips? Of course, we're planning on a rear facing baby seat in the back seat of a Bonanza and gentle decent rates.
Have somebody ready to give the little guy a bottle (or nurse him*) when you start the descent. The sucking'll help his ears equalize.
We flew DFW-MDW on a 757 when my son was about seven months. The only time he had trouble was the initial descent, but the bottle helped immensely. He only cried for about three minutes.
Try a binky for pressure changes if you don't want to feed him a bottle. My three month old is fine flying commercial with only a binky and enough distraction to keep him from getting bored. Also consider some sort of hearing protection for him in your Bonanza. Young ears are really sensitive. Good luck!
We flew our four-month-old niece from DC to FL in a Cherokee Six. She slept most of the time and had absolutely no problems. Just try what others have suggested... nursing and pacifiers.
