Has anyone run into any problems while flying through Ukrainian airspace or while on the ground in Kiev (UKBB)? We have been there once before and it was mostly listening to their English very closely. Thanks for any info.

Went to Kiev last year and had no problems. Make sure the handler takes your pax through the VIP lounge. Ours didn't (even though we requested it) and it became a big deal.

Otherwise, the handling was good.

Oh yeah, the catering left a little to be desired...ok, well, it sucked. Have fun. TC

No QFE and no Russian translator required. We are using Jeppesen, the VIP customs handling and they are trying to comfirm a hangar for our GV. By the way, what is selo?

Thanks

Hangar in Kiev? Hummmm... Maybe they could tow you under the wing of one of the IL-76's parked up on the Northeast side of the field. ;)

Good luck. TC

Our guys that have been there said there was no hangarage, but we are waiting for final approval now to house our GV from the UKBB airport authorities. I am guessing that any available space is in the lone building to the NW. They also claim that they have a GV tow bar to move our aircraft, but we must supply our own brerakdown tow bar in case the jet has to be moved out of the hangar in an emergency. I hope the hangar is for real, as it will be a royal pain to purge the fluids and move all the supplies to avoid freezing.

Better practice putting the on-board towbar together (in sub-freezing wx...). We had 20 min. to assemble it and stow it (since the boss was on his way) in Bologna one summer day.

It's difficult enough to put that 'Rube Goldberg Signature Towbar' together in good conditions. In the Ukraine in December... TC

P.S.--We stayed at the Radisson/SAS hotel downtown and it was really nice.

And no one has mentioned the women???:smash:
Though I've never been, I have heard some Ukraine girls are knockouts!

Salo

Salo is basically pork fat that has cured in vats and it is used as a spread on bread or whatever your heart desires. Sometimes it is cured with garlic or pepper. Taste like pig fat, only different. :p

I didn't think the hanger was heated. I thought it was just for covering.

You might want to check that heat is actually on.

Daveman: Yes they are knockouts, but I've run into a few in Canada that would love to knock you out and take your monies. I'm sure it's no different over there. Be careful but enjoy!

Thanks for all the input. Our handler told us the hangar floor is heated and we will be required to have the tow bar put together and stowed next to the nose gear if we want to use the hangar. We are going to stay in the new Radisson down town. More expensive than other hotels, but we want to try it out. I think I will give the salo a miss, my cholesterol is high enough. But I do understand that good vodka will thin the blood fat out. Ukrainian grils are very hot and there is no shortage of gorgeous, blond lounge lizards in all the hotel bars. Like the man said, they might as easily rob you as knob you.

You might want to drain and purge the plane regardless just in case they decided to move you out for the day....

No. It tastes exactly like pig fat. The one time I tried salo it was so gristly, I couldn't chew it apart. Then I tried to cut it with a steak knife and failed. If it wasn't so slimy it could be used for cargo net material.

Hootie boom balloties. We had issues getting Visa's at the Airport. Had to wait for about two hours. Obviously should have gotten them ahead of time but we didn't have time. Then there was an issue with departure tax leaving. Orange square is a lot of fun. There is a brew pub in one of the casinos that has great beer and food and its very cheap. I wish I could go back three times I year. I love the Ukraine.

The Ukraine girls/knockouts was my attempt at humour, in reference in "Back in the U.S.S.R".;)
I agree, after the deed, out they go!:pimp:
