I'm just wondering, since I'm not gonna get to see an instructor for a while....if I wanted to fly my 172 from say Vero Beach to the Bahamas, what all is involved, besides meeting the regs for flight over water like having floatation gear aboard and such? All that I know from when I did my private is that you must file a DVFR. Is that all that's involved? Is there any more paperwork that needs to be done? What if I wanna go IFR, is there a DIFR? I've looked around in the FAR/AIM, but haven't found anything, what else am I missing here?

Thanks.

Is there a reasonable place to rent a twin in FL that isn't too far of a flying distance from Nassau?
