I am looking for some information on flying in Costa Rica. I have flown some in South America and the islands between, as well as Cayman, Mexico, and a few Western European countries, but have not done any flying in Central America. Just curious if there are any special regulations/operational procedures that are out of the ordinary in Costa Rica (specifically San Jose). I plan to use, once again, Universal Weather and Aviation out of HOU, but would appreciate any real-world experience anyone may be willing to share. Thanks for your time!

Check the FAA Int'l flight manual at www1.faa.gov/ats/aat/ifim/.

Advance permission of at least 24 hours is required; but if you are using a handler like Universal, etc, they should be able to get it with no problem.

Anyway the FAA Int'l Flt Manual has some info on flying into there. If you are a member of AOPA, they have a section on it too.

Have a good flight!
