"Tree Top Flyer" By Jimmy Buffett (Hidden track on Banana Wind)

sewerpiper:
Are you aware that the "skypilot" in the 60's Animals song is a military chaplain?

My nominees:
"Volare" originally by Domenico Modugno in 1958 and later made popular by Dean Martin.
"Come Fly With Me" by Frank Sinatra (and probably a hundred others)
Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" for all those United commercials.

"Going to California" by Led Zeplin, because that seems to be the only trip I ever make. Other favorites while on the airways:
"Alien" by Pennywise
"Chrome" by Trace Atkins
Just about anything by Led Zeplin, Johny Cash, and Metalica

I think the song that mention the 707 is by Aerosmith.

Lonely is the Night – Billy Squire :o

Ridin’ the Storm Out – REO

Nobody’s Fault but Mine – Led Zep

I’ve Been Everywhere – Johnny Cash ;)

"Morning has broken" by Cat Stevens always reminded me of flying for some reason......and of course, anything from the TOP GUN sound track.

John Denver wrote it, Peter, Paul and Mary did the origional cut. Then Jewel did the most recent of many remakes.

Well hell, it sounds like "Learning to Fly" has been done by many bands. Floyd, the Foo Fighters, and Tom Petty (the version I know). So all three are just completely different songs with the same title?

Interesting.

Kenny Loggins

Can't believe nobody mentioned Kenny Loggins "Highway To The Danger Zone". This is the song you usually almost hear at airshows all the time.

"fly'n into Los Angeles, bringing in a couple of keys, don't touch my bags if you please Mr Customs Man"

Arlo Guthrie

King Nothing by Metallica
Hells Bells by AC/DC
Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
but moreso, the tunes coming through the XM radio when we fly.

Anything Bruce Dickenson

..or Maiden
Elevationis good and so is Lenny kravit's Fly away

Lots of good tunes so far. My favorite? ANY Parliment song. Quite often are the CD players of our Lears graced with un-cut funk, straight from the mothership. "You gots to wear your sunglasses to be cool!" You just haven't experienced flight until you're airplane is all funked up. (George Clinton is a required crewmember on my jet.) I also enjoy most any Sinatra tune, most especially the Riddle arranged tunes of the early 60's. Earth, Wind and Fire is excellent aviating music also.

No one has brought up the subject of what tunes run through your head at certain times. For me during takeoff: The opening horn strains from the theme to Superman, (composed by John Williams.) When I break out at minimuns and see the runway environment lit up in front of me, then I sometimes imagine the choir singing Hail the Conquering Hero Cometh, from Judas Maccabaeus (Handel's Aria)

When cleared for the approach........

"Play That Funky Music White Boy" (Wild Cherry)

I listen to this one when I'm thinking about my family back home:
"Carrying Your Love With Me" (George Strait)

Other songs I like while I'm flying or getting ready to fly:

"Mississippi Queen" (?)
"Wanna be a Cowboy" (Kid Rock)
"Hard to Handle" (Black Crows)
"Learn to Fly" (Foo Fighters)
"Give it away now" (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
"Time for me to Fly" (REO SpeedWagon)
"We'll Fly Higher and Higher" (?)

All this "flying music," and nobody's mentioned anything symphonic.

Remember The Rocketeer, starring Bill Campbell and Jennifer Connelly? James Horner's opening title from that movie is perfect flying music!

("Karn Evil 9" by Emerson Lake & Palmer works well, too...)
