I've heard there is a trick for getting the "A" boarding slot with a purchased ticket on Southwest. I think it has something to do with checking in via the internet prior to arrival at the airport. Can someone shed some light???

Thanks for the help.

I think at midnight (well, 0001) of the day of your trip you can go to southwest.com and print out your boarding pass, getting you an A.

24 hours before your departure you can check in online.

SWA is the Greyhound of the sky. Man I hate that cattle cart approach.

You can complain all you want about the cattle car, but with the exception of assigned seats (which SWA is FINALLY looking into changing), the legacies aren't any better these days. With the bad attitudes of most cabin crews, the pay for every little thing that used to be complimentary approach, the pathetic on-time records and painful hub routing, I actually enjoy flying Southwest (I never would have thoguht I'd ever say that 10 years ago).

Fearless, I buy a seat to go from point a to b. Pissed off flight attendants I don't give a crap about. Fake smiling and trying to be my pal is something I can't stand and SWA is an expert at that. Just get my arse home after 8 days on the road.

The 24 hour check-in for an 'A' boarding pass is the way to go. Skip the ticket counter and go straight to the gate (via TSA). SWA is a very reliable way to travel, and to get an 'A' (or even a 'B') boarding pass gets a window or an aisle seat. Saavy domestic travelers choose SWA and take advantage of this.

atleast airtran has xm radio. That made for a nice couple of flights yesterday. I've got my espn radio, i'm a happy man.

And if you look at Northwest, they have gone to boarding the entire cabin (minues exit, first class and premium members) all at once. Frankly, it's no good when your competing for overhead space and you have just been beaten to the punch by 200 other people racing to get onto the aircraft first.
