I need some current info on the baghdad airport. I am especially interested in ATC and the general condition of the airport. Any info would be helpful.
Why? Looking for an interesting place to fly for dinner?
As far as I know, the airport is closed except to traffic bringing supplies for the Coalition or Red Cross. ATC is provided by the US Air Force. Use caution for surface to air missile activity within a five mile radius!
Last I heard, the infield between the runways and taxiways was mined, too.
They have a TACAN (maybe VORTAC) only approach there. Both runways are in good condition. The civilian r/w is about 13k long, and the military is about 10k long. If you get off the jet, don't wander too far off the taxi ways. I think the terminal is open - but maybe not for departing flights. Most of the time the wx is good enough not to have to shoot an approach.
