Why don't they just smell their breath and be done with it?

I miss flying in Russia, -35°C temps in the winter, mosquitoes as big as bats in the summer and drunk hotel van drivers.

I'm pretty sure the Russian pilots that flew into Aguadilla, PR were drunk all the time. I always wondered why it took so many crew members to fly that little Antonov....

Cool link. Thanks.

And I thought getting a Physical every 6 months was a pain in the .........!

You think that's bad...

I flew in India for a time, and was required to take a breathalyzer test before every flight.

Wonder if all that pilot prep work was a show for the cameras...

With exception of the pre-flight medical, I don't think the prep work was a show for the cameras. This is the way most of the pilot prep work is still done around the globe. In many European, Asian and South American countries, there are real pre flight briefing rooms, containing all the necessary support and information for the flight. Trained flight operations personnel (not seldom dispatchers themselves) usually meet the crew with complete paperwork for a briefing and stand by for any assistance the crew might require. Pulling your own paperwork from printers at the gate is virtually unheared off outside the US.
