Flying in Portugal

Does anyone know if you need a JAA license to fly in Portugal or is the FAA enough?

I assume you mean as in doing a trip to Portugal, not moving there and living there.

If you mean simply a trip there, the FAA Certificates are sufficient. Your FAA Certificates will allow you to fly virtually anywhere in the world (in a US Registered aircraft)

Just kidding. I think you will have to get a Pilot Certificate from there (JAA or whatever they use there). You MIGHT be able to get it based on your FAA Certificates but I bet there will be additional requirements.

The wine is pretty good. The wine from Porto is the one that's supposed to be the best. I got back from vacation from there a week ago and the chicks are incredible. They all have that "Mediterranean" look. What they consider casual we might consider flashy. Definitely a nice place to visit.

Falcon Capt I didn't loose a bet. My girlfriend's uncle is the body guard of the Prime Minister. One of his good friends has a large charter company there. He talked to his friend about me and I was asked to send a resume. Not holding my breath but stranger things have happened. It wouldn't be a terrible place to be for a few years.

Portugal is a fantastic place to live and work. I am based in Gibraltar, and with a similar climate, (in the South). You will, have a ball. Best of luck....If you do not get the position, pass it on to me!!!!!!!!

You will need a JAR Licence....It is not easy, they will not give you any real credit for your FAA, (unless the aircraft are staying N numbered.) N numbers are possible, but only on private aircraft, these can be operated by charter companies. Portugal was selected by Net Jet, as its European base, due to the flexiability of the local CAA. As well as being in the EU.

The company you are hired by can send an application to validate your FAA ATP for up to one year.

I did contract work in Portugal. Extraordinary place. Good in taxes too. Try to get a citizenship. I had to come back. I tried hard to stay for a longer time or to stay for good. When I will retire that is my choice.
You need a JAR license or a local. They don't trust too much our training here so you might need to go some extra miles to get that. Good luck to you. Get the job.

Validation

Yes,
you can get a 12 mth validation, and this should be applied for by your employer, but it is totally dependant on your experience, and should not be expected.
After 12 mths you must have taken all the JAR written exams, and flight tests.....NOT easy, trust me: very expensive trust me:

The portuguese are masters in cooking Codfish (Bacalhau). Not sure why, but they are.
I recommend you order "bacalhau a brás". Also, for appetizers, their cod dumplings are reaaaaaally good.

Yes, their wine is excellent!!!!!!!!! And you'll be next door to Spain (barcelona, madrid).

I know what you mean. My buddy just got back from their honeymoon and had me over for dinner after stuffing my face with brats at Oshkosh. I must say there's nothing like a good home cooked meal (especially Portugese). I remember having some BBQed squid. Now that was awesome. This isn't going to be hijacked by the BBQ thread is it?
