Flying in Europe

What does a U.S.-licensed pilot need to fly in Europe? I have my Private ASEL now and will have my Comm AMEL and Instrument by the time I do any flying on that side of the Atlantic (military equivalency exam). Just wondering what I'll need to do to be legal with the ICAO.

That's kind of the point - I'm asking somebody that knows because I don't.

Well it kind of depends on where the airplane you are expecting to fly is registered.

If N - registered - You don't really need anything different then here as far as licensing goes.

If registered in a country in Europe - You most likely need (most countries) a JAA license. I think there's a pretty easy way to get your private converted - forget about the commercial one - takes at least six months of full time study (they do offer some long distance coourses) and a whole bunch of exams.
