I had my first, and hopefully last migraine a few weeks ago. Not fun. My Dr. gave me RELPAX to take if I get one again. Anyone have a similar experience? What's the Fed's stance on flying with a history of migraines or taking this drug? Thanks in advance.

Not a good idea. This is from the AOPA site:

I had the same problem about 4 times over the last 10 years and it's no fun. I did lots of research and found different things trigger it for different people. Things like red wine, milk & dairy products, onions are just a few. Each time I would keep track of what I had consumed the day before. It was onions (raw) for me. I stopped raw onions and the problem went away. Four years later I put them back into my diet and the problem returned so now I know.

I had one this last week on a leg into my domicile. Got the usual blind spot followed by the headache,.sensitivity to light/noice etc. I had a Dr give me some relpax last year to try next time i had one (about 1-2 every year). The relpax helped initially but then about an hour after I took it(while i was waiting in op's to catch a flight home) I swear it just about killed me. I all of the sudden broke out in a cold sweat, nearly passed out and puked in the bathroom. It was worse than I normally felt after a migraine with no medicine other pain killer. Is there anything else out there that is ok'd by the FAA that actually helps?

It may not be a true migraine if this is the first time you've ever had one. The feds are really hard on them special issue and such. If you did not really have one, chalk it up to a normal headache. If you actually have (or have had in the past) migranes, it could take years and all kinds of hoops to jump through in order to be cleared and just just have to get a normal physical.

I am asking this question for a buddy of mine b/c he didnt want to pay the $10 fee as well. Anyone experience or does anyone know of any pilot with ocular migraines? If so, what is their status and what treatments are they taking? My friend had one about 7 months ago. Comments are welcomed.
