I have a friend who is getting married and looking to move to the Denver/Longmont area to work at flightseeing and/or flight instruction at the end of October.

Any recommendations as to good flight seeing operations and schools/FBOs that might be looking for instructors? How is the market for pilots right now in the area?

Much thanks for your help.

Ahh yes good ol Longmont, right where I am right now. There are lots of good flight schools in the area, not sure if any are hiring. I know Specialty Flight Training at Erie Municipal (48V), east of Lafayette, is a good operation, really nice people, nice airport to fly out of, and I believe they might be shorthanded on CFI's as quite a few just left for the airlines. I am training down at Journeys Aviation at Jeffco (KBJC), really great group down there, and nice facilities. Also at Jeffco there is McAir Aviation, Airwest Flying Club. At Longmont's airport I believe there is still a FBO/flight school there, Air West Flying Center.

Not too sure what pilot demand is, I will check with a few CFI's i know. Longmont is a decent town, if your friend is certain he wants to move to Longmont, tell him to look at the newer housing developments going in on the edges of town. Theres also a lot of nice houses in Erie which is like a 10-15 min drive to Longmont and about 25-30 to Broomfield.

Tom Zweck is a major @$$hole. Everyone hates him. Last I heard if he comes near the airport property again the cops will be called and he will be arrested. If it werent for him, Longmont would be getting a nice runway extention and a lot of improvements. Did I forget to mention almost every pilot around here hates this guy?

Hey Wedge I sent you a private message, your friend can email me direct if he'd like if he has questions (my address is in the pvt msg).

Tom Zweck defines insane. This guy lost his mind a long time ago. Its funny to to because he has about a million trees that block the lights in the first place. And almost all of the planes this guy b**ches about a good pilots ( I personally have met a lot of them) who arent doing a da**ned thing wrong. For those of you reading the complaints, also read the story about the new beacon tower we got. Maybe someday this guy will sell out and then the airport can have some peace and quiet. It should be worth noting the Longmont City Council is a bunch of *****s, when the airport applied for a runway extention (for safety since we get density altitudes of well above 9000+ft in the summer) and addtional upgrades they actually took Zweck seriously because the city council said "we have to assume that this guy represents the city as a whole in his complaints". AND THIS GUY ISNT EVEN IN CITY LIMITS! Yet if you look, almost no one else complains, even with the 3000 homes that have gone up under its pattern in the last 5 years. Welcome to Longmont, home of the next Boulder Municipal Airport with a trillion flight restrictions.

Sorry for the ranting, this guy just really makes me mad.

I don't think Zweck is any real threat to pilots. Just a nuisance. And besides, where else can you get noise complaints like this:

92. 6/9. Tom Zweck called to say he hasn’t heard an airplane all day and that it has been eerily quiet today. He wanted to know why nobody was flying today. He said the last time the airport was this quiet was September 12th.

or

138. 7/24. Tom Zweck called three times between 3:00 and 3:30 to complain about an airplane that did four touch and go’s over his house. He said it was a scummy pilot and that he resents what’s going on. He also said I’ve been responsible for all the growth at the airport but have done nothing to stop the negative impacts. He wants me to get a radio and call every plane that fly’s over his house. He said the pilot that was doing touch and go’s right now should be shot.

or my favorite one

128. 7/13. Tom Zweck called five times today at 11:57, 12:16, 1:50, 5:30 and 5:36. His first call was to complain about the jump helicopter stating the pilot was a pig. He also wants me, Gordon, Phil, Kevin and the AAB “geeks” to perform air traffic control when the wind blows out of the east and RY 11 is in use. His second call was about the skydive plane whining and droaning over his farm. He said they don’t have to make that much of an impact to the valley and that I could do a better job of managing them. His third call said all the traffic over his farm is sickening and that it is “one geek after another.” He reiterated that he wants the City to do air traffic control so no planes fly over his farm. His fourth call was that an experimental plane flew over the western portion of his farm. He said the plane didn’t make any noise but that it was “erie” because it glided over so quiet. His last call was to complain again about all the traffic that flew over his farm today.

Anyone know if Tim Barth is still the Airport Manager up there? Is he the one writing these log entries?

Sounds Familiar

What you guys ought to do is get a balloon to take off when the wind is right to fly right over his place. Let’s see what would he complain about…it’s eerie how it goes over with no sound…they’re trying to block sun and kill the crops on his farm… Or better yet isn’t there a balloon that's a giant finger? :)

Just the other day my controller was telling me about some guy complaining about someone. I don’t think they even talked to the tower, but this guy wanted to know who it was, where they were from and where they were going. He was shocked when the controller didn’t even have radar let alone have a flight plan on every aircraft.

29. 3/31. An anonymous man called at 10:30 to complain that all the airport users are low class trash. All he could hear at Sunday service was an airplane and he said all pilots are disciples of the devil and that we are all going to go to hell.

Sorry Dude I'm about 500 miles east. Seems like most every airport has someone like him. When I worked fuel service I got calls not only asking when a flight left (no 121 service here) but grandma calling to complain Jr was taking a nap and this airplane was too noisy. I know one pilot that filed a complaint about a skydiver that hit his hanger while landing. I'm sure the jumper caused major damage to the building right!

But in all fairness there is alot of support from the community here. In part because the police helicopter unit is here, but also because the airport has the only resturant on this side of town.

Have fun with your training!

Also forgot every year they also have a sunrise service for Easter just outside the terminal.
