Just got a call from Flight Express last week. Any information about them would be great. July 19th they are starting a new class. Supposed to take a sim ride and if passed start training that day. Anyone been there done it? What bases do most junior guys get, or if any choice which ones are best? What is the equipment like, and what is the company like?

Thanks in advance.

go back

Hours are horrible. Domiciles suck. Pay can be good if you're willing to work 14 hours per day. You'll fly crappy old 210's (Barons after a year or two if you're lucky) with no DME, no weather equipment and certainly no a/p. The company hates your guts and if you dropped dead they would not even spend $10 for flowers. The unlicensed dispatchers will make you feel like a wimp if you don't want to fly through a squall line. They hate you too.

Having said that, the flying that you will do there will make you a very good pilot and the experience is well respected in the industry.

Completely agree with above post, and I worked there in '89-'90. Also agree that the experience will last you a lifetime. I recommend the job, as bad as it is...

Well, I flew for a small competitor of theirs, and worked closely with the company and know personally many of their pilots. What everyone here has said is true, but in my opinion (a opinion not shared by everyone I might add), that type of flight experience will be invaluable to you down the road, and not just on your resume. It helps you build self confidence and gain knowledge regarding weather that will help you tremendously when you're ready to move to the left seat of a bigger plane. Try not to stay for a terribly long time, or you may have a tougher time when it comes to learning CRM. Or not... that's on an individual basis. Good luck.

Different Opinion

I am a current pilot at Flight Express and I have to tell you it's not that bad. Junior guys seem to be going to St.Loius and Cincinatti. I was lucky enough to get a day run out of Orlando making about $30,000 right out of training. Most runs in the company are at night. One of the previous posts said the hours were long and that is true, but your paid for every hour on duty so most of the junior runs are very short. As far as the company hating you, I have not seen that at all. If you do your job and show up to work you'll have no problems.

I'm FLX alumni and I'll agree with every word I HATE FREIGHT had to say. I would never go back to flying freight, but I wouldn't trade my freight experience at FLX for anything. I am a much better pilot because of FLX. I can honestly say though that I'm just glad that I lived through it.
