Hey Flight Express guys--does anyone know anything about the 210 in Jackson, MS yesterday?

FLIGHT EXPRESS FLX615, N6108Y, A C210 ACFT, MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AFTER REPORTING SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT AND OIL ON THE WINDSHIELD, ON
LANDING THE ONE PERSON ON BOARD EXITED SAFELY BEFORE THE ACFT
EXPLODED AND BURNED, 15 SW OF JACKSON, MS

WEATHER: KHKS 271440Z VRB04KT 3SM BR OVC001 21/21 A3020

This is all I saw, but was wondering who was flying and where he landed. Crappy weather. I had a lot of time in that plane.

Oh wow.....I used to fly N6108Y daily with Flight Express. A fire would do that aircraft a favor! Not one of my favorites.

I know who the pilot is too.......good guy, glad he's okay!
 
Thanks for the info. Turns out I know the pilot too. We were roommates for a while at BNA. He's a very good pilot with a good head on his shoulders. Glad everything turned out okay for him--still got to suck though.
 
Anyone know if this was the same plane he grounded here in Houston for a week because it was overheating? Sounds like the correct N-number if i remember right, i saw it sitting here that week.

Wow....I know I flew that airplane back in late '95 or so(not with Flight Express, another company based out of MDW)...and I think that's the same one I had to put down at KIOW one night because of a crankshaft failure...T210N model, right?
 
I don't think FLX has any T210s anymore. They replaced the engines with IO550s probably for reasons like you just gave!!
 
Loking at the prop, it looks like the engine had seized and he did a great job getting it down.

What was the old saying about landings you can walk away from..........

Glad to hear he is alright.

Thanks everyone. I'm fine other than they said I could continue working there and then fired me because I wouldn't get back in the plane right away. The story as I know it is the #2 conecting rod. (the arm of the piston conecting it to the crank shaft) Busted out threw the engine block of corse causing the engine to sieze. The FAA told me they thought I did a good job getting it on the ground wich is always good to hear. So they didn't find anything to "ding" me on. The full story is on the NTSB's web sight....

The witness (farmer john) said the airplane was on fire when he saw me. Before I crashed, but I don't know if I was or not.

Sorry, just felt like saying it...but kinda serious about the lawsuit part, sounds like good grounds for it. At least you could get your job back if you really wanted it.

Great Job on the Dead Stick into the field IMC! I read the NTSB report... I fly for flight express and I always have my GPS handle-held ON in case I have to hit the nearest button as I am sure most pilots do!

TR, I'll buy your entire tab if we ever meet. I've been through the comparable scenario (wx-wise) in A SIM, in a PT-6 POWERED single, and the pucker factor in pretend-land was immense.

Your attitude after the fact is impressive, too.

That sure does suck. Rumor had it you were 2 weeks from a new job anyways so when I saw your "puck" taken off the dispatch board I did not think anything of it.

I'm pretty sure they'd settle out of court. My guess is that they'll offer a "buy one-get on free" coupon at Denny's! That will one-up the 10% off coupons from last year's Christmas Bonus!
 
THET FIRED YOU????? What eh he11 for? How long was it between the time you had the accident and when you wouldnt fly? What was the circumstances on why you wouldnt fly?
