Hey im in the 145 and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas of were to get a good flight case. Im still in training but need one before sim training. Someone told me that the 145 had a slot on the flight deck for the case. I dont want to get one that does not fit. If anyone has any info let me know please. Thanks

Don't worry.

If you're going in the erj just about all flight cases will fit, so just pick one that you like or can afford.

Take care.

Joe.

Get the catalouge case from office depot. It costs about 40 bucks; mine has lasted 9 months so far without any problems. I fit 2 3" Jepp binders, a 1" Jepp Binder, a 3" CFM, a plastic jepp chart holder w/ charts for North America, a flight ops manual, 2 flashlights, an extra pair of glasses, a pair of david clarks, a novel, a flight crew log, and a few other things in there without any problems. Plus it's cheap.

I have had the office depot version for over 4 years. It looks like $hit, has been to h.ell and back, but there's nothing that duct tape won't fix. This years uniform check will be spent on a nice spiffy new flight case.

Aluminum Case

Go to ebay and look for "aluminum flight case". You'll get one for around 30 bucks plus 26 for shipping and it will last forever. The Staples and Office depot versions will not last at all and anything with wheels will be a pain in the but to move the seat back and forth. You may also want to look for a jepp holder. I forgot where I got mine but for $10-13 you get an apparatus that goes over the writing stand and under the windowsill. Works great, sturdy aluminum. I'll find the website and repost it.

I am not on the ERJ, so I dont know what will fit. But I would highly recommend you not get the $30 office Depot catalog case. I had it one day and i returned it. It looks like crap, and doesnt look quality at all. I saw a buddy in Sims and his handle already broke. It hasnt been 2 months! Duct tape might be able to fix it, and I know we want our flight cases to look used, so we dont look like a newbie, but duct tape, come on!

I would get that scott jumbo people talk about if i had the $$. I got the US luggage bag from officemax, and I am very happy with it. A guy from chicago express has had it for 2 years and its held up really well. Its 60 bucks, you cant beat it.

Yes and no. For a new-hire, the $30 case is great. Spend your money on other things, like rent. The handles seem to be a crapshoot anyway... I've seen people use them for years with not a problem, and others seem to break right away.

They do seem to show wear a lot faster though. Mine looks like it has about 20 years of wear and tear on it. As long as the handle works I guess...

I'm gonna vote for the office Depot model. Remember, Office DEPOT. (Office Max, Staples, etc. don't seem to carry this model.) If memory serves, it was only 30 bucks, and mine just turned a year old, still in one piece. A few reasons to go with the "El Cheapo,"

1. You are a poor, broke FO. It's only THIRTY BUCKS(!!!), and you're gonna need the money to pay your slumlord/crashpad keeper.

2. Leather ones have been known to soak up any glycol/skydrol/petrol spilled on the ramp. It does not come out.

3. Thirty Bucks???

4. In the back of your mind, you probably think this vinyl and plastic beauty will make you look like a "dork." It won't. Lots of Captains I know carry the same.

5. Every year, you can afford to get a new one. It'll be new looking, with perhaps better odds of the handle staying attached for longer, and any bad sticker choices can be overcome without nasty adhesive residue as evidence.
After all, they're only THIRTY BUCKS!!

6. It can serve as a "band-aid" bag, until you have the time to find the leather/ ballistic nylon/ aluminum/ titanium/ wooden/ goat scrotum bag of your dreams, with all the right pockets in all the right places, etc.

7. If I might have failed to mention it, THIRTY BUCKS!!!!!

Just my 3,000 cents,

Don't get this bag.... Your FA's will want to sniff it all the time.

Jepp holder

The aluminum jepp holder works great.
Try Crewaid.com .
I think it was $10 + $3 shipping (ish)

Take care.

dont drop 300 on a case man. just go to office store and get a crappy one. Pluss you look like a tool showing up to your first week of work with a new 300 dollar case.

I bought the Office Depot special and it has lasted over 4 1/2 years. Looks a little banged up, but still works great. Don't blow a wad on expensive flight cases until you're a captain at a major, and have nothing better to spend money on then child support to your 3 ex's.

My office max handle broke on the 2nd week, very inconvenient. Modified it with some hardware from Home Depot - we'll see how long it lasts now.

yea my office max handle also ripped off. I rigged it back on with some 80lb fishing line and what not, its been doing ok

OfficeMax handle pulled out through the cardboard-like material after 3 months. Repaired it with large washers and it lasted another couple years. The inexpensive bag material quickly deteriorates when repeatedly dragged through rain, snow and glycol. After 2 years I could see daylight through the bottom. A few months later the bottom fell out.

It's a good first bag while trying to live on a FO salary.
