You want to know what torture is? How about the Capt giving a 10 minute cruise PA when it's 11pm? Please tell me you don't do this General. Tell your Delta pals, that I hear everything from "idiot" to more "colorful" phrases from the pax when the Capt is rambling on about the route and weather. Please, Capts, no late night PA's. No one cares that we are flying over XYZ when it is dark anyway.

That's funny... Always bring a set of ear plugs and dark sunglasses.. No problems!!

General

General Lee, I have been off of this board for 8 months now when I left you were preaching that Rj's were the devil. I come back and within 15 min. read a post from you preaching that RJ's are the devil.

I am glad to see you do not waiver in your opinion at least. It did give me a good laugh as well. Good luck in the fight!

pmoffitt,

Welcome back! 8 months and no flightinfo? I would just die!

Hey, I don't hate RJs, and I have stated that they are good at some things, and bad at others. Delta has made a strategic mistake using too many RJs and thinking "Frequecy" was all important, when in actuality fares were far more important. RJs have their place, but not on 3 hour flights from DFW to DCA, SNA, OAK, etc--and not up against LCCs. As far as flying them---I bet they are a blast, and they seem to have a very advanced cockpit. Welcome back!

Gordon24,

Well, I do think I sound like Kasey Kasum (American Top 40) on the PA. I try not to point out anything along the way if I am flying Song--since they have a moving map and can watch the weather channel on their TVs. On mainline, I occasionally update them on where we are at---but not after 10 pm or before 9 am. I am not that lame! I haven't seen a Capt do that either.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Once again a hijacked thread ends..

Yeap, this is getting pretty common here, usually ends in personal attacks or comments about someone's comments.....the subject of the thread is lost.....what the heck were we writting about anyway???

Aren't there a few brave souls here who will defend this captain's decision?
Sure I'll defend this poor guy.

None of you were there, so shut the hell up.

Enough said.

Maybe they were stuck in a money line and couldn't taxi but.....

It turns out that Flight 1128 would have been the first flight cleared to take off from Boston once the ground hold by air traffic control was lifted, and the captain did not want to risk losing that position by returning to the gate.
Things that make you go hmmmm.

Take a vote?? Does anyone else have this "procedure"? Sounds kinda riduculous...
There are a bunch of us a ACA/Independence Air that are quite pi$$ed at the mention of this "procedure" since it seems to shift all of the blame on the pilots for not following "procedure"....doesn't seem to matter that no procedure exists. Blame the pilots!

Not just the Pilots

I guess my post blamming the dispatcher as well was overlooked....I still dont understand how a crew or the dispatcher would justify sitting on the taxi way for 5 hours??? Under any circumstances, where is the logic in this? The PIC or DX should have made the call to do a gate return...

As for this procedure, I certainly dont believe this is a good idea and the statement was only feel good stuff for the press anyway...the airline should be looking out for the Pax and do what is right long before the Pax even think about it.....

JMHO..

Just another variable in this little equation. The US Terminal at Boston is almost completely gridlocked now. Some idiot bean-counter figured they could make a few bucks by ground handling I Air, while they don't have enough gates or rampers for the express schedule they're running now. (And US is expanding in BOS, both with RJs and Mainline). SOOOO..... they may not have had a gate to get back to.

Gates.....availability

Well this was brought up before and I addressed it as well. I have frequiently had to work with Ground ops to find or GET a gate to offlaod pax when an unexpected gate return occures, especially in ATL....this is not a special problem.....at worse you have to wait long enough maybe 20 minutes, to get a 15 minute opening at a gate to at least off load the Pax, then you place the Aircraft on a parking pad away from the active gates.....again I just cant see all these people in the loop from the PIC, DX, airline mgmt, then ATC ground, and concourse ground ops......would allow these people to experience 5 hours in an RJ....

Customer Service ??? especially for the new Image Indy is trying to establish.....where is the common sense here?
