flap question

are the flaps fowler or slotted???

They're both

Slotted--due to the "slot."

Fowler--because they move "back" and "down."

Sometimes a question can have two answers.

Both.

Generally, if a flap has tracks instead of hinges, it's considered Fowler.

A Fowler flap usually creates a slot due to its movement, but in some planes, it doesn't (don't quote me, but I think the B-52 is an example of this).

When the DE ask the question; What kind of flaps... the best way to phrase the answer is that I’ve heard is:
“They are Slotted flaps with Fowler characteristics”

Seems like a hybrid to me.

Mostly slot, with a pinch of fowl.

Yeap Says slotted in the POH but I think their fowler flaps. Don't almost all flaps have slots in them fowler included? In my opinion a real slotted flap has much more of slot, than a 172. Don't have any pictures though to back that up.
