Fisher named DCI president

April 29, 2005

Jeffrey (J.T.) Fisher has been appointed president-Delta Connection Inc. In his new role, Fisher will oversee Delta's business relationships with its regional airline partners – ASA, Comair, Chautauqua, Republic and SkyWest – as well as with Delta AirElite Business Jets and the Delta Connection Academy.

"J.T. has been instrumental in helping Delta build a world-class portfolio of regional jet operators, while securing more than $200 million in cost efficiencies from the group since 2003," Joe Kolshak, s.v.p. and chief operations officer, said in a memo. "The streamlined Delta Connection management team under J.T.'s direction further reflects Delta's ongoing efforts to reduce overhead costs and eliminate administrative redundancy." Kolshak added that the new DCI management team reflects a 39% headcount reduction.

Fisher brings 16 years of airline experience to his new role. He joined Delta in 1998 as v.p.-Finance, Airport Customer Service, and served as controller-Marketing and v.p.-Financial Planning and Analysis, before becoming chief financial officer of DCI in 2001.

I can think of how they can further reduce the management overhead, but they aren't interested in merging 2 companies to reduce and entire companies worth of overhead. Makes a lot of sense.

ATR :

Just polishing his resume. By being "President" he gets PIC time for the next job after Delta is finished.

Lends credence to the speculation that the Christmas fiasco at Comair cost Randy and Mike their jobs and got Fred a demotion. No longer appears to be a "slimming down" corporate restructure.

The only department where we never have a short staffing problem is management.
