I have a first class medical but it has lapsed to second class privelages. If I am interviewing for an airline (regional) and havent had the time to get re checked out, will I be disqualified? I am capable of passing the first, I just havent gotten around to it. I know on Airlineapps it says "expired" on one of their pages, it freaked me out and I wondered if an employer would pass on me for that reason... I have one scheduled in two weeks.

I would get it renewed ASAP! I had a buddy of mine NOT get hired at a well known regional last year for that very reason. His had expired about 3 days earlier. He had made it through all the hoops and when the Chief Pilot brought it to his attention, it did not look good. It is such a small thing but it is just one more thing that can trip you up when you get to 'the show'.

A friend of mine, who was in my interview group, had a first class that expired to a second class. He still got the job, but put you game face on junior; "I haven't gotten around to it" isn't a very good excuse. Do you want to work there or not?

'the show', omg! laughing my butt off!!! I don't think a regional airline is the 'the show'!!!!! But thanks for making me feel a bit fuzzy there for about 5 seconds!!!!

'The show' was not meant in any 'Bull Durham' context, rather, your 'dog and pony show' performance in front of the interview folks.

I can add my own story to the batch: I knew a pilot that went off to interview with an expired 1st class (still good for 2nd) and was promptly sent home from the interview.

I guess those interview guys are sticklers for that "able to follow written instructions" qualification...

Do not go to an interview without a current first class. Why would you take that kind of chance? They will most likely send you home. Good luck on your interview by the way.

Wsurf, No problem, it certainly could be read like that as well.

If you have the time to ask the question, it shows that you appear to want to be a professional pilot. Since you want to be a professional pilot, spend the $80 get your 1st class medical. An employer has no reason to believe that you can pass a 1st class medical unless you have a first class medical. Unless you were a AME doctor, then they would believe you.
If not, i am sure there are 10 other guys who want the job and are equally as qualified with the medical. my $.02
