FFDO and Jury duty

Are FFDO's excused from jury duty as federal officers or do they have to do there civic duty.

For those FFDOs in the So Cal area...

...A friend of mine is an FFDO and gets into some of the theme parks (Knotts) when they have Police and firemans days. Gets the family in for free.

Just thought I would pass that along to you FFDOs in So Cal.

No ... At least not here in Nevada. They used to excuse police officers (LEO's) but as a few months ago ... not even they cannot get out of it. When I served there was a police officer that did get out of it , only because he had previously arrested the fellow that was being prosecuted.

In Florida LEO's are still excused from Jury Duty. I think that is just local and not federal.

Arizona also does not excuse anyone....you are still expected to show up and the judge/attorneys decide.

I had to go...sat there all day, actually met a really cool chick, and when it came time to question potential members, I stood up for almost every single one.

"Are you a current or former LEO?" Yep.
"Do you know any LEOs?" Yep.
"Do you have any lawyers as family members?" Yep. My uncle is a Deputy US Attorney; he prosecutes drug crimes and handles appeals work for drug crimes committed within his jurisdiction.

You should have seen the look on the defense attorney's face....the case to be tried for for possession of methamphetamine.

We had to stand up to respond to each question that was asked and had to remain standing until we were individually asked to explain our answer. Toward the end of the selection process, the judge would just tell me to sit down whenever I stood because it was pretty obvious that I wasn't exactly the ideal juror.

Hell, even the Governor (a former US Attorney and Attorney General) had to report for jury duty.

Just go....hell, I think it'd be great to sit on a jury, but it won't ever happen for me.

In Illinois they specifically ask if your in Law Enforcement. If you are, then your exempt.

there isn't a defense attorney in this continent that won't do everything in his/her power to eliminate a LEO of any type from Jury selection. As a general rule we as LEO's are none to sympathetic with those on trial...

In Florida you don't need to show up at all. They expect about 50% of the people who are sent summons to be no-shows - there was a news article about it one day. I inadvertently tested it once. I don't always open my mail on a timely basis and found a summons buried in there for 3 months earlier. Whoops!

Honestly, if they don't send it via certified mail (and they don't), I don't see how they can prove that you ever got it.

Which is funny since LEOs are supposed to believe in the rule of law and innocent until PROVEN guilty. We aren't supposed to convict just because someone is accused.

Have 12 years Law Enforcement experience in Minnesota and that wouldn't get you out of Jury Duty. Co-Worker of mine was selected as a juror for a domestic assault case. Either a dumbass lawyer or a smart one that didn't throw him out. Either way, you still have to show up for the questioning.

Went to the pretrial in Florida for a guy who gets a DUI and punches the cop and resists on video....

Raised my hand after the first question, asked for a sidebar with the judge (with the static noise machine on the speakers) told him that I felt uncomfortable being in law enforcement and showed him my cred and he showed me the door.

All it took was 1 hour of my time.....

Does he flash his creds to get out of tickets as well?

The beaurocrats who oppose the FFDO program have prosecuted quite a few who chose to ignore the SOP's.

I just served on a jury for a child molestation case. It was very educational to see the process at work. I highly recommend you due your civic duty if you have the chance. I found myself in deliberations 5 against one and I thought my decision would be cut and dry!

Just another example of how the FFDO program will let certain idiot's in that do the dumb $hit that then puts the program in a bad light.
