Correct, the insurance companies are running the show these days, which is just too bad. 15-16 years ago I flew for dealer for a few months... with a whopping 50 hrs ME time he turned me loose in C-401/402s, Aztecs, Twin Comanches, etc.

Why NOW would the insurance companies be more strict than before? According to the NTSB 2004 and 2005 have been the safest years ever for GA in both fatal and non-fatal accidents. Something doesn't add up. Anyone know why?

I agree with Dcat here. That, and the stunt the kid pulled with the 172 in TPA.

Nothing really has changed, but they have the pricing power to inflict much higher rates now.

Lots of low end rental spots and mom-n-pops have closed up shop for this very reason.

As long as the 9/11 flag is being waved, it will continue. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we should forget, but at some point we're going to need to press on.

There were a lot of hurricanes one year and the insurance companies had to raise the rates to compensate for that. Then there was an oil shortage with the gulf war conflict and energy companies had to raise the cost of fuel. Both energy companies and insurance companies posted huge profits after the hikes to offset previous years.
