Yes 5 of us interviewd last week in memphis. 3 civ 2 A/F F-16 guys. We were told one way (by all means not the only way) to get an interview now is to have your sponser(or sponers) get you a meeting with Jack Lewis the CP. The names are passed onto HR and then you should get a call. We were told at least 2 classes a month (28 total) thru Oct 04. After that a break for the holidays then crank back up in Jan 05. Everyone was great in MEM cant wait to hear the good news (I hope) !!!!!!

Please read this as information only. Im sure there are many ways to get an interview at FEDEX. One is keep at it!!!!! My stuff had been in since 1998. I never gave up.

Aside from me getting a meeting with Jack Lewis, I mean what do I REALLY have to do, because that sounds just TOO easy...

I guess I wasted the 50 bucks..

Not True

We are not requiring an interview before the interview.

I know of at least a half dozen guys that have gotten calls in the last 3 weeks one being just yesterday and none had a secret meeting with Jack.

You will probably still need somone to walk your resume in however.
The process is still the same, the only differance that I have seen is that its taking about 4 weeks to get the yea or nea vice the 2 weeks it has taken in the past.

Also, all new hires will be doing their sim training in Dallas after ground school, as the MEM sims are booked with recurrent and upgrades.

The flood gates are slowly opening and the calls will be going out. As the original pool is dry.

Hired Interviewees from early July are being told expect an Oct or so class date.

Update, stay in touch with your contacts and hang in there
Hope this helps with some anxiety.

Thats a great way

Drvr,

You are correct there, that is almost a sure fire way to get the call (a meeting with Jack)

Point being, that is not the ONLY way. Besides, If you knew Jack, he would gouge his eyeballs out if he had to screen that many prospects per month......hes a bit busy managing the 4200 pilots he already has.

That's a good deal for you new hires -- per diem and a hotel room provided at Dallas. Plus, it's got that "TDY" feeling -- you stay in the same hotel with your instructors, have most of your meals and beers with them -- it's amazing the extra learning that you pick up in the bar.

Good luck to all the new hires and interviewees (and keep padding my seniority :)),

50 bucks?

Geez,

This guy is trying to get one of the most desireable jobs in the industry and he is worrying about the $50.00 application fee. If he is concerned about the 50 bucks in this case, I can just see this guy buying ONE round during indoc, or when a bunch of buddies have a night off around the crashpad, much less when he is a captain and he decides to pick up dinner for the crew. Next we'll find out he doesn't like to pay extra to get his suit tailored. We have a few guys like that around here.....don't need another one. The funny thing is, this knucklehead probably buys a powerball ticket when the stakes get high....talk about misplaced priorities.

Sorry for the jab BobbyB...but you sound like a defeatist.

Jakal

If any FedEx pilots out there would like to "sponser" a 7 year Comair pilot, please PLEASE PM me. Unfortuantly, I do not have a contact from within...:o

At least with the powerball you don't have to get a meeting with the head of the lotto commission to have a chance to win.....by the way, I like to hear somebody pipe up and tell me that they submitted their app and got a call based on their application and experience. That is all I am saying. ALSO, I am not opposed to those with connections getting calls because that is how things work. What I am saying that it appears that I (that being me, BobbyB, not you Jakal) have wasted my 50 bucks since I don't have anyone above a MD FO gunning for me. As for the bar tab: I have been around the world more than once, and bought more than my share of rounds at the club. Since you appear to be some sort of AMC, AETC douche bag, I haven't had the chance to gun you personally. Sorry Jakal, you have no idea.

Off the top rope?

"Since you appear to be some sort of AMC, AETC douche bag, I haven't had the chance to gun you personally"

Wow, BobbyB, that's a mighty big generalization there. I know Jackal ticked you off, but there's no reason to lump all of us into one boat. I am an AMC/AETC weenie myself, and quite proud of the record I've made in both of those commands. I am also quite proud of the fact that KD called me Monday with the good news that "my interview was successful and I'll be moving forward in the hiring process". I monitor this site frequently, and I hope to be as helpful to you as many others have been for me. However, in the future, could you avoid alienating me and several thousand of my brethren by comparing us to feminine hygiene products?

GoFlyMe - Tests are general math, graphing, science, vocabulary, logic, and a "psych" test.

Zulu - About how long does the sim portion of training take? Assuming my background check goes well, how should that impact my decision on getting a crash pad for training?

I know you could have insulted more people in that post but you got most of us.

BTW, you aren't the only one who made a $50 investment that didn't work out.

Oh and, Jakal, you are dreaming if you don't think that getting called at FedEx lately is about who you know. The hiring boom for the postal contract is over. I know you know that, but its gotten even harder to get an interview since then.

Remember, every hiring cycle is different.

Actually, I was talking about Jakal being a feminine hygiene product, but boy are you AMC/AETC guys sensitive or what? How about a reply like "you fighter douche bags are all the same..." or something like that. Jeez, relax and lighten up. I made the sarcastic remark that if you need a meeting with the big man to get an interview (or someone else at executive/CP level) then I wasted my 50 bucks (as have lot of other guys). Jakal, instead of coming up with some examples or counterpoints to refute this premise, decides to make some personal attacks about my ability to buy a round at the club, or my desire or ability to have my uniform tailored, and that I squander my money on the lotto. None of these issues have convinced me that I have NOT wasted my money. No matter what Jakal may think, no amount of my hoping, or meditating, or good karma, or good vibes, or the power of positive thinking is going to be able to make the Chief Pilot, or the FedEx CEO float my app to the top of the stack. As I said previously, I am not saying that the guys with connections shouldn't get looked at first, I am just saying that <5 year buds on property are not going to be able to work this out.

Careful....the douchebag you insult could be your sponsor

BobbyB...Jakalflight check (twooop, threep, fourp)
.
Never in AETC....was in ATC, and MAC, in AMC shortly while the douchebag who was the Chief of Staff reorganized something that we used to call the Air Force . Was in AFSOC after that, but most importantly, I am painted purple and sitting on the ramp in Memphis. This Jakalboy is well aware that the hiring boom at FedEx is over, and beginning to resume at a slower pace as I was hired before most of the boom started.

I don't know what the "gun you personally" remark was about except for the fact that it crossed my mind that you might be making an embarassingly awkward attempt at inferring that you are a fighter pilot.....big deal. To be honest, just about everyone on property has been around the world....been a fighter pilot, U-2 pilot, flown commuters for years...flown at Eastern, Braniff, American....whatever...we are all impressive in our own right and don't spend time trying to impress each other.

My point is that instead of poor mouthing about a wasted 50 bucks, you should be getting someone else to "gun for you"....If I was the MD-11 F/O you were referring to that is putting in a recommendation on your behalf, I would be pissed that you ascribe such limited value to it. If you are an experienced AF Pilot, then It is extremely remote that you only know one person working here. Your fifty bucks is not wasted if you can contact one of these folks....or even find out if "ole Joe Whatshisnuts" is working there. I suspect that there are plenty of people you knew who work here, but maybe they aren't rushing to "endorse" your application because you are the type of person that refers to a stranger as a douchebag when they make a candid criticism. I know I for one, knowing what little I know about you from your posts, don't want to go on a layover with you.....

PM me with questions...my intent is not to get into a public urination contest with you.....just a word to the wise.....careful what you say and to whom you say it. FWIW, 10 minutes before my interview, I had a really nice conversation with a guy in a hallway while "waiting" to interview. Turns out it was the Regional Chief Pilot.....had a big grin on his face when he came in the door for my actual "interview".

Get a good attitude, develop a sense of humour, I know it has got to be stressful...Cheers and good luck.

-Jakal

P.S. By the way.....you aren't the first to refer to me as a douchebag....but this douchebag is living the dream....why do you think I'm laughing anyway?

Jakal,

Like I said, a simple "you fighter guys are all douche bags" would have sufficed. I case you can't read the sarcasm, I am aware of what it takes to get an interview. I am also aware that you work for FedEx, the AF planes followed by the 727 sort of gave it away. It appears that you are the only guy that I now know at FedEx who I haven't been in touch with. Soooooooo, could you write me a letter, and send me your employee number so I can put it on my online app???? I was going to take back the thing about AETC and AMC, but since you weren't really involved there in a post McPeak AF, I won't. It does appear that we have a few things in common, a love of the color purple (not the movie), and a disdain for a certain a General officer who thinks that flight suits with epaulets and AF blues that look like an airline pilot's uniform are cool.

BobbyB

What the hell is a douche bag anyways? Do you Air Force guys REALLY use those?!? I thought that was just an old wives tale...

Pax

Bobby,

I don't think all fighter pilots are douchebags....just you....:-)

I spent a good deal of time in the McPeak Force....but it was mostly AFSOC.
Therefore, when you spoke about the love of Purple...at first I thought of joint operations....and thought (how could anyone love that?)

As far as Airline Blue Uniforms looking cool....they are way cool. They pay the bills and let me have a life. Seriously, as far as "horsepower" is concerned, all your buddy has to have are the stones to "put his reputation on the line" for you Have him walk your application in....I did it for a friend of mine....and I have only been here 3.5 years.

So you have to find a sponsor who is willing to pop up on the radar scope with a large signature.....and hope that you don't give anyone a good reason to lock on your sponsor and fire at you both. It's not "IF" you have friends at FedEx that like you and want you to work here....The question is "how much do your friends at FedEx like you and want you to work here."

Good luck, and seriously, even if you did call me a douchebag, PM me for more info. And since I don't know you from my obvious resemblance to feminine products I won't write you a letter.

I gotta say, reading this gave me the impression that if I had your SSAN, I'd be inclined to visit the Employment Website and submit a negative recommendation for you. Now, I've read the rest of the posts and think I understand that you were trying to be humorous with sarcasm. Sorry, but it didn't strike me as either; it struck me as be sophmoric, arrogant, and crude. Furthermore, it smacks of a bitterness that I just don't care to associate with. If you're on the looking end of the job market, I don't think you can afford to leave a first impression like that.

You're a big boy and you can do as you please, but if it were me, I'd avail myself of the EDIT feature and remove that post. I'm a big boy, too, and it won't bother me if you don't. Clearly, it's your judgment.

Funny thing, judgment is...

:)

When you guys say "sponsor", do you mean a FedEx pilot you know that will give you a recommendation or is this some special "in" person? I know this may be a dumb question to some of you but I want to make sure I know the scoop since FedEx or UPS are my goals.
