I don't think that the interview sim bounce rate has changed in the last couple of years. I would highly recommend a sim prep of some kind. I have read on other sites that the profile has changed a little bit, but I have no way of knowing if it has. I would think that the folks doing the sim prep have a pretty good idea of what they are looking for.
I did all of my sim prep on my own in a Falcon sim. I was flying a lot at the time and had a pretty good scan going. I loaded up the gas and the temp to make it as difficult as possible and tried to be as smooth as I could. That was a few years ago though and if I were going through today I would definitely get the sim prep.
I know its easy to say, but you need to relax when you go in there as well. That is where having done the prep would probably help the most. You can lose your chance with on bad half hour in the box, so I understand there is pressure, but you are a pilot dadgumit so just suck it up and do your thing. Also, remember that you are never out of it until the instructor turns off the sim, so ALWAYS keep correcting and striving to be on alt, speed and course, no matter how bad you think you might be doing. They will have seen better and worse you can be sure.
I am not really in favor of the sim ride in the first place, because I don't think 20 minutes in a sim you have never flown before is necessarily a good indicator of your flying skills. Regardless, the sim is part of the process so you must prep as much as you can for it an do your best because it is unlikely FedEx will ever do away with it. Just don't sweat it too bad once you sit down and strap in.

Buy the Sim prep. Nothing like a lap or two around in the same frame of mind. Don't know anything about Emerald or their operation, but there are plenty of folks around with the up to date profile. For you Navy guys think S-1 and S-3 patterns from BI's in flight school. I know the people up at Natco in MSP can hook you up.
2/5 busted in my group in Sept 04. One guy was nervous as all get out, and he kicked the motion off the sim on his steep turns with excessive back pressure. The other had over 1000 hrs in a 737 and 747 and was typed in both. I don't know what he did, but he had an extremely lackadaisacal attitude the entire day, was flippant to everyone, and wore the most wrinkled suit I've ever seen.
Didn't do sim prep, but I got my 737 type rating in a sim about 2 months prior. Without that, I don't think it would have gone too well. Made a gross error on my holding, but everything else was pretty tight. Falconjet is right, work to the end and don't give up in the sim. From what I've heard, every maneuver counts the same and one doesn't have any more weight over any others. Again, that's only what I've heard, nothing to back that up.

Capt Mark, failures in the sim are a reality and are happening frequently. I failed the sim at FedEx over a year ago. Since then, I've been hired by a great major airline. I'm extremely fortunate and very happy.
Future candidate, so you've done the grip and grin. And you've been called by KD for an interview. You've never failed a check ride in your entire flying career. You're feeling great that you got an interview with your dream company...Believe me, you can fail this ride.

Accept nothing but perfection in the sim and make sure the interviewer knows that you've gotten a headache from working so hard in the sim. And thank the interviewer for their time and opportunity to interview with FedEx. Sure there are "gouge" power settings on the internet and from buds. Many of your buds may try to make you feel more comfortable by telling you the sim was "no big deal." But the real deal is doing your absolute best in the box. Be humble and get a sim prep from folks who know the process.

The sim is a pass/fail event, based on points. All can pass or none can pass. They aren't trying to bust anyone.
Sim prep is a good idea- you don't want to look back and say... gee, I wish I had......
In general, keep correcting! Don't settle for 100 feet off. Don't dwell on a little mistake and kick yourself- keep going!! Read the AIM and remember to report entering a hold and stuff like that.

Hey it isn't impossible- I made it!
Do what makes you comfortable. I see a lot of posts that tout sim preps via an actual simulator. Not necessary in all cases. Did mine using MS FlightSim 2002 using the 737NG and flying the known profile. If you are familiar w/ what the instructor could give you and have practiced 3-4 times using your own computer, then you should do fine (it's all in the scan). But if confidence is the issue, then do whatever it takes to feel borderline cocky.
Another key point: people make mistakes in the sim during the 1st day and still pass. There was a chick in my group who goofed up the entry into holding. Why did she pass? Because she informed ATC of her mistake and then reentered correctly. I've known people to veer off alt +/- 250 feet and still pass. The reason being they were always correcting back to assigned altitude. The only thing I do advocate absolutely is the interview prep for the 2v1. There's a lot of us out there who think we're professional speakers practiced in the art of eloquency. But in a room w/ closed doors and your on the wrong side of the table, you'd be surprised how deftly one begins to paddle backwards!

FYI--sim passes are the norm--but the busts include military (F18, F16, KC135, C130, P3) and the gamut of civilian types (f-lo'd AA, f-lo'd DAL, B1900, E-145, CL-65). God almighty I am glad I made it through looking back. Get help somewhere--practice in a sim, or a computer, or your local facility--but show up with a good cross check. You don't want to think because "I flew a DC 9 for 2 years before my furlough..." that you are ready. There are plenty of places to get help--Miami, Minneapolis, or your local ANG base--but do something. I sometimes think the profile I did that passed in 2001 might bust today--but that is pure speculation.
Shisha--do you think you looking back you ended up in the right place? You are a CLASS ACT and without getting to spiritual on these boards I am convinced things often happen for a reason. I hope you are happy at your highly profitable, fun, and fired up company.

The sim portion of any interview is easily overlooked as being a non-event because a) You are a S-Hot fighter pilot or B) You are a current S-Hot heavy guy. At AA in 1991, they were using a round-dial 707 sim, and with no experience beyond fighters, the amazingly ponderous roll rate had me going for a while, as did the painfully slow throttle response.
After I was hired (thankfully!), I later asked a guy who worked the sim how they graded. I don't know if FEDEX does things this way, but the gist was this: If you were a current KC-135 driver, for example, they would expect a higher level of comfort and understanding of the platform vs. a fighter guy, or a SAAB pilot. But in all cases, they were looking for nearly continuous corrections, and an instant recognition when you deviate. It was a cross-check they wanted, a good one, and an attitude that did not accept sloppiness and deviations. I wouldn't announce a recognition of an altitude dev, like "40 high, correcting", just DO IT and be obvious about it. Let the airplane speak for you.
