Does a guy or gal with say, 1000 PIC in a Shorts360, CASA or King Air have the same "qualifications" as a guy with a 1000 hours in an RJ or even something bigger?

And does it matter under what kind of regs you fly? 1000 hours part 91 looked at the same as 1000 hours 135 or 121?

Part 91 is good, 121 is better, Mil is even better. I fly pt91 and we have two pilots and alternate legs. I have 1000+ pic, and one fedExer told me that by alternating legs, count it as 500 pic....(?) Aslo, told me that if you just meet the mins at FedEx, you are neot going to get looked at.

The fedEx gig is very competative but so worth it if you happen to get on there. So I'm just going to keep updating, networking and playing golf in hopes of one day getting the chance for a meet and greet, then a chance to interview, and possably get on line before age 60.

Right now I'm flying a heavy, but with an unknown upgrade time; I'm looking at another job flying one of these smaller types, but with a much quicker upgrade (6 months, as opposed to 3-4 years). Pay and QOL is about the same for both companies, but with more flight time on the smaller turboprop than in the heavy.

The networking part I've got fairly well down (there's more to do in South America than just drink beer!), so that's actually the LEAST of my worries. I just need to get my PIC time up, otherwise I'm stuck.

I understand that just meeting the mins won't get me in the door (usually), and I expect to exceed those mins quite a bit. It's just a question of how long, and with whom. If I stay with my current company, maybe 5-6 years total. If I switch, then maybe 2-3. One gets me tons of widebody time, but the other gets me the PIC time, and much faster. Also, the other company is more stable, which makes a difference as well.

And F-16 time? Got that too! In a minute, I'll also have F-22 time, C-17 time and some C-130 time... just gotta find my pencil...

Iceman- cough/bullsh*t

FedEx doesn't drop bombs, fly CAP, tanker, and do ACM. [hint military]

What FedEx does do is fly Part 121 (sup) kinda like the rest of the Part 121 Airlines. [hint the airlines]

No worries though, by the time the MIL guys come back for thier 12 month recurrent they do just as good as the CIV guys....

But I'd get that 1000hours of Iron Eagle [F-16] time. The CRM skills alone will trump any CIV puke.....

FedEx mentions you cant reside outside the US for the past 5 years. What if you maintain a residence inside the US but accept a temporary assignment overseas?

I had 1000 PIC (All T-Prop) when I did my walkthrough. 1200ish when I interviewed. But I'm an anomaly. Wait to get at least 2500 PIC before you start pushing. Don't want to jump the gun on an opportunity like FedEx.

But you must have been military... what C-130 or P-3 maybe....??

No, just sounds like a pompous super pilot that was a sky god at 1200 hrs when it takes everbody else 2500 hrs of pic to match his supreme level of airmanship.

I think capt zman picked up on the sarcasm. dojet u missed it. better luck next time. the point i was trying to make (and i'll use little words if it will help) was there is no reason not to kick the farkin door down when you meet the mins. i don't care if you flew a vw beetle with 2 pt-6's strapped to the roof. if you meet the published mins, go and get the job you want. do not be deterred. cram your foot in the right doors and achieve a goal. casa, king air, f15, a320, etc... seems to me that fedex wants to see the mins. after that it's the person they are interested in. but you do what you want. me, i'm having yet another beer and waiting on a class date!!!!

zman - you surf??

Not sure if you were kidding, but it didn't come across that way... I don't know QT (QT= Quiet Time) but it seemed like he worked it right to get on at FedEx. Instead of alot of flight time he got the quality time FEDEX is looking for... The guy is set.... In the pool at FEDEX with 3800TT. Alot of MIL guys have more time than that... So kudos to QT (that's Quiet Time). I see nothing pompous or suprmeme about him.... he is just better at the game than the rest of us....

Alright, so basically this whole thread is nothing but peoples perception.

Quiet Flight, I guess that's who you mean by QT? Anyway, quiet flight puts up a post that basically says "I'm special, I got into FedEx because I only had 1000 PIC when it takes everybody else 2500 PIC." You bust his chops becsause you think he MUST have me mil. He then busts my chops because I didn't pick up on his underlying intent, when it sounded like he was coming off like an arrogant donkey the way he worded it. You post something about cooking books and my percption is skewed. WTF? I was quoting QF's numbers, not my own. I have no idea what the fk you are referring to.
