Any vacation experts out there? I've been assigned my first block of vacation days and have a couple of questions. Does vacation wipe out a whole block of R-days or only the ones it touches? For example does a vacation of 16-24 block out R-days from 19-29 or just until the 24th? If I slide the vacation three days to the right, does it wipe out all but the last two days? Does the 48 hr buffer automatically wipe out the remaining two days? Do I have to wait until the 36 hr adjustment to slide the vacation three days? Can I expand it one day (6 CH) without going in the hole? I know I've got alot of questions, but I've read the CBA and it's freakin' greek to me. Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks.

Way too complicated to give you an answer here. I suggest that you call the guy (or guys) who sponsered you and let them talk you through it. If that doesn't work talk to the next Captain you fly with and let him shed some light on it for you. PM me if you want and I'll give you my number and talk you through it. Good luck.

Duece

Assuming that you are on the 72 and you are talking about the Jan bid, you get the R day value ,4:32, for every vacation day you have. So, if you are holding a reserve line on the 72 in Jan, the BLG is 86: 08. Take your number of vacation days and multiply it by 4:32. That is your hours used up on vacaton. Subtract that number from 86: 08 and that is the credit hours you will work on reserve. If you have reserve days that conflict with your vacation they will just be moved, usually next to already assigned R days, so that the value of your vacation and your reserve days equals the BLG for the month. You can request where you want to move any conflicting R days by calling your Vacation specialist but he/she doesnt have to honor it. You MUST protect min days off or all of the above goes out the window.

Bidding reserve in a vacation month can be a good deal if you play your cards right. I have 2 weeks of vacation this month, bid a resreve line and have all of December off.

Clear as mud?

"Does vacation wipe out a whole block of R-days or only the ones it touches?"
Only the ones it touches, However, if you have have vacation days on days off, it will take out r-days that arent touching your vacation (input prefs in 36hr window) so you dont lose those vacation days.

"Does the 48 hr buffer automatically wipe out the remaining two days?"
The 48 hr buffer, if elected will wipe out any r-day or trip it touches in this bid period. However, you dont get paid for those, and r-days will be moved to days you have off.

"Do I have to wait until the 36 hr adjustment to slide the vacation three days?"
I think so, you wouldn't want to slide it til you knew your schedule anyway.

"Can I expand it one day (6 CH) without going in the hole?"
Absolutely! In fact as previously posted, each r-day is worth less than 6 hrs. The 36 hr bid adjustment screen will show you how much you can expand. Multiply days x r-day CH values to get how much your vacation bank will be docked.

Last year I had 12 days of vacation. I bid reserve, and expanded it all- got 6 weeks off.
