News straight from the press:

Looks like the bid will be coming out soon - perhaps next week. They are not too sure of the numbers...250 wb capts +.

Training for the next 17 months. No seat freeze.

Some pilot domicile issues on the horizon. Europe getting bigger Paris is getting sizable. Increasing the Europe flying. Will need to look at Subic/Guangzhou Base. Result: Bid each year for next 2 or 3 years.

hiring - 30 a month or so. Need up to 100 new hirs to go direct into MD-11 and 20 into Airbus.

Good Source.

That is the condensed version.

P.S. Any idea when they will start hiring/calling the poolies in to class?

Also said that those numbers are expected to go up because of the Anchorage move package being off. At least that's how I read it. Curious to see how they are going to get newhires at $50/hr to move up to Anchorage on their own dime.

Still not 100% sure BUT the SCP email today said 'big months' in Apr & May, then 30 month thereafter for the next couple of years so it shouldn't be much longer.

The 250 WB Cpt's was a minimum number, could be closer to 300. Sounded like a big bid with a clean up bid later this year/early next year once the European domicle is solidified. Asia domicle is not a time critical issue right not but a decision will need to be made NLT early '08.

Hiring...All applicants welcome EXCEPT those currently employeed (active) at another major. Everything still on a case by case situation.

Hope this helps

Not sure if this is a change in the last couple of weeks but, half the guys I interviewed with were currently flying with 3 different majors and all three were hired.

Purple Tail,

Thanks for the info, but there seems to be some misinformation floating around. Or just different opinions from different ACPs. I personally know 3 currently employed major guys who were interviewed the last 4 months and 2 are waiting for classes.

The furloughed guys have also been getting hired. I know at least 3 who were hired in '05 from UAL.

Maybe the policy is changing yet again and the currently employed guys are getting told no at the meet and greets. Don't know about that. The guys I know did meet and greats in early to mid '05.

We’ll look at all qualified pilots except those actively working for majors (US Airways, United, Delta, Continental, Northwest, American). I review this policy constantly, trying to balance fairness to everyone (FedEx, the major, and the individual). So far, I haven’t come up with a good reason to change it. I’m open to input on this…..or anything else.

This is a cut and paste from the actual email...take it for what its worth. I would NOT be surprised if it was just thrown in their as a CYA by JL. As far as I known every applicant is looked at on a 'case by case' basis. If you know of "active" pilots getting hired from other major airlines than that is the best first hand info out there.

Please don't shot the messenger:p

On second thought...

I'm thinking your info, PurpleTail, has more truth in it than I thought. Perhaps not a hard and fast rule, but a hurdle that may be overcome with the right circumstances (hard charging sponsor, hiring needs, or availability of over types of candidates) The non-major guys probably float up the "to be interviewed" stack because they are viewed as more "competitive" because they have no other ties.

It is probably just harder for a currently employed by a major pilot to get aboard.

Would the 20 new hires to the bus be based in MEM? I didn't think they had any trouble filling those seats as opposed to the MD11 in ANC.

Sponsored someone for 14 months before he finally was interviewed and put in the pool. In the meantime he was hired and trained at continental. Gotta take the job you're given first and then see what else works out. I bet a lot of guys were in this situation and I'd assume FedEx understands that.

Same thing happened to me- guy I sponsoured waited about a year to get a Fedex interview... and in the meantime, got on at Southwest. Of course he took it. But I guess Jack doesn't realize SWA IS a major. I think he meant "legacy".
