Anyone in the know about when they expect to begin new-hire training for the year? Originally, it was supposed to begin in April but that was predicated on the MOAB being sorted out. Since the MOAB has been put on hold indefinitely, is that also true of new-hire classes?

And, no, to all those who swam in the last FedEx pool years ago, I AM NOT WHINING!

My 2 cents, I don't think that they can wait too long (past April) because the lack of growth will ultimately hurt the company (even for a short time), although anything is possible. It's obvious that the company is in a position to grow, wants to grow, needs to grow, is interviewing to grow, and created a pool to grow. The only option is to wait it out. MOAB or not, growth is going to occur sooner rather than later. The class date will come when the phone rings, period.

Comparing this pool to the 22 month pool is apples and oranges...different time in the industry.

Patience my good man....patience.

When KD does finally call for a class date, does she already have your aircraft assignment or is there an equipment choice possibility in the process somewhere?

KD has nothing to do with aircraft assignment. My guess, if not enough people upgrade and the company hires to the right seat, is that there will be a widebody class (MD and Airbus) and then a narrowbody class. Or they might run just a MD class, Airbus class and Boeing class.

When you show up for class your seniority will be assigned by the last 4 digits of your SS#, highest to lowest. ie. 9825 (good) 1134 (bad). IF it is a mixed class of widebody FO seats, AS AN EXAMPLE, say there's 10 MD slots and 16 Airbus slots...the instructor will start with the person with the highest seniority an give them the option of which a/c they want. If all the MD slots go first then the guys at the end of the line might not have a choice and be assigned the Airbus.

When I was hired back in '01 during the postal contract boom FDX was running 24 a class, 8 slots for the back of the -10 and 16 for the back of the 27. I was number 11 out of 24, the first 8 all choose the -10. In hindsight it worked out for the better because I gained a whole lot more seniority a lot quicker in the 27.

I know your itching to start class but take this time, the next month or two, to spend some quality time with your family/friends. Once class starts you don't exist for at least two months, all you do is study, study and stress.

 It's not that bad - good grief.

No, it isn't that bad. BUT when you are a new hire that just landed your dream job you study and stress your ass off not to fcuk up. Plus, you are away from home for a couple of months and that can make things tough as well. Nobody wants to live in MEM, living there is always 'just temporary' to make life easier.;)

yes it is that bad. Especially if you don't live in MEM and your family is at home. No time off for months. Plus you get to pay for your housing. So spend time with your family and start saving.

wow nobody wants to live up to it.

yeah, but at least you get training pay....

yeah all 2300 bucks a month. Before taxes. Rolling in dough.

yeah sorry sarcasm lost in the written word. :)

And it's not 2300/month, it's only 2000. Jeez, get your facts straight :) BTW Diesel, do you work here?

This train has become de-railed......back on track.

What is FedEx's capacity for student training loads? (so to speak)

A class is what, 30 per?

How many classes can they run a month?

Do they anticipate off-site training shortly?

There are 70-80 new hires per month, I'm trying to get a feel for how quickly they can drain the pool.

According to last year's classes, they typically run 2 classes per month, starting during the last 2 weeks of the month, and ranging in size from high twenties to high forties. Last year, there was a significant amount of offsite training, MIA, MCO, MSP, and DFW to name a few.

They can open the floodgates and do 80 per month if they want to. Be patient, according to last night's email from the regional chief pilot, meet and greets are starting again which means that the pool is about to drain, and I would guess very rapidly.

word was floating around about stockholm, swe and hongkong for the md11 training but that fell through. ATL is supposed to start being used if it isn't allready.

Heard from someone in the training dept and confirmed by some in the hiring dept and the bus driver thought it sounded good too is that dates will start to be given out at the end of March regardless (or irregardless if you like) of the MOAB. FWIW.

BH

P. S. How about that for a one sentence post?

As for good MD offsite training locales, the latest I've heard are Zurich (SwissAir sims) and Frankfurt (Lufthansa Cargo sim).

Stress you ass off?! That bad, huh? You must be a blast to fly with. :erm:
I don't live in MEM and a couple of months away from home usually relaxes me (and my wife). You have to be a complete idiot to screw up enough to get fired - since I'm only a half an idiot, I didn't stress - hardly ever do.
Sounds like you were doing enough for both of us. :D

Not bad. Irregardless is only correct english if you say while you have your finger in your nose!

Yeah, I know its in the dictionary because so many people said it that way that Webster just gave up I think. Here is what Webster's online dictionary has to say about it:

irregardless

One entry found for irregardless.
Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less http://javascript<b></b>:popWin('/cgi-bin/audio.pl?irrega01.wav=irregardless')http://www.m-w.com/images/audio.gif
Pronunciation: "ir-i-'gärd-l&s
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
nonstandard : REGARDLESS
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

The emphasis added is mine.

If you did get off site training for the Mad Dog, does the company then pay for lodging? I would guess a crash pad in Germany is not cheap!

Please define "MOAB". I'm sure it is obvious but I am running on decaf at the moment. :)

Yes, if you go offsite for training you get a hotel room, rental car and per diem.

MOAB = Mother of all Bids
