Over the years I have shipped quite a bit of stuff using the generous FedEx Interline Discount (Thanks!).

The problem is, I sometimes walk into the office and am met with blank stares when I present my ID and mention the Interline discount.

I'm sure it is something some offices rarely, if ever deal with. Does anyone know a good way to steer the counter personnel to the information they need?

Is there a code they type into the computer? Is there a page in the computer that outlines it? Is there a company manual that references it? Perhaps something I could print out and carry with me? I've seen them put some sort of special sticker on my stuff that says something like "employee standby".

Trying to crack the code.

At my previous airline when I still had the purple discount I used to pull out my airline ID and simply ask for the 'employee discount'. Worked everywhere and I shipped from some 10 different cities. I think it's the "lingo thang".

Until FedEx quits replacing World Service Centers staffed with mostly knowledgable and career employees with Kinko's $9/hr couldn't-care-less-about-anything types, expect it to continue.

However, if you'd like to offer some advice to the lost counter person, let them know that there is a spot on the first page of the FPOS screen that says "interline." If they touch (or click) the interline space, a menu appears on the side....click the first letter of the name of your airline and it'll appear. Select the airline's name and continue as normal.

That's all there is to it...can you believe THAT to be so difficult?

They are also required to get your employee number, airline name and DOH placed on the air waybill. If you place these three things in the "shipping reference number" section of the air waybill (between the sender and recipient's information) ahead of time, this will save you time at the counter.
