Thought I'd pass along the latest...

-hiring continues...pool is empty and interviewees from June in class now. 2 more classes scheduled for August and as many as 48 new hires before the end of the year.

-yesterday we were told 737s may be on property next summer but today CP said that it would probably be 757s instead.

-Looking at getting 11 more MD11s starting next spring.

-Sounds like company still possibly trying to get out of DC10 to MD10 conversion contract with Boeing.

I'm a new, new guy but that's what I've picked up the last 2 days...

Military?

Are most new hires ex-military? If so, what branch?

The mins are all on the website...pilot.fedex.com. I heard today from numerous folks in the training department 24 newhires per month indef.

Not sure if there will be a break in training for peak...very behind in pilots with volume growing every day.

lets hope it is true!!

h.

Our class is 3 military, 5 civilian.

KD said 16 per month for now but I too have heard it could be more and with BIG retirement numbers coming the next few years, it should continue.:)

Any news on negotiations and how that will affect hiring or are they waiting for UPS to set the bar?

Thanks for the scoop on the Fedex website. Just looked a the mins, are they serious about 1500 pic multi-engine? Are there any breaks for single engine? Thanks.

FedEx

Daddy: That is a million dollar question. Negotiations are moving along slowly, more driven by the company's feet dragging than the union's. I don't think that the company is waiting for UPS, but I'm sure they are keeping an eye on those negotiations. I think they waited as long as the could before resuming hiring, but that was driven mostly be economics and bean counters, not the negotiations. Just my opinions mind you.

HarleyGuy: yes, the new hires are going to the panel and most likely will continue to do so unless and until hiring picks up SIGNIFICANTLY (unlikely) or we get some 73s on the property. Back in the hiring boom after the postal contract some guys went straight to the back of the DC-10 or the right seat of the Boeing (from what I've heard) but I don't think we'll see that anytime soon.

Elkurro: read the paragraph again, its an either or situation. You need at least 1500 fixed wing PIC, including at least 1000 hours PIC in a fixed wing jet, OR 1000 PIC in fixed wing multi engine turbo prop, or a combination of both. That allows for single engine jet PIC, but not single engine turbo-prop PIC time. Kind of a bummer for T-34 IPs, but does allow for single engine fighter types.

Pasted from web site:

"1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in command (PIC) or first officer (SIC) including a minimum 1000 hours PIC in fixed-wing jet, fixed wing multi-engine turbo-prop, or combination thereof.
Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.
Note: FedEx considers only pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. This does not include simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, or Special Crew."

P3Tarbaby: Welcome aboard and thanks for the info.

Thanks FJ, that's how I read it. Being a former turbo-tormentor IP I will have to settle with being bummed-out. I guess my 767 type rating won't help me. Any chance that this requirement will be changed?

I doubt it with the number of applications we currently have on file. In fact, they've recently tightened (slightly) the requirements: multi engine recip >20,000 Lbs used to count towards the 1000 hours, but no longer. Sorry.

I would have to agree with Zulu. The number of applicants in the pipeline and the last few accidents will only drive the requirements up.

Does Fed-Ex take on-line applications, or is it the same old thing: Snail mail resume, get an application form in the mail, etc, etc.

Thanks, found it and started filling out the app....

Uh, does anybody know all the pilot bases besides Memphis and Memphis..?..:D

Pilot bases

Memphis - B727, MD11, DC10, Airbus
LA - MD11
Anchorage - MD11
Subic Bay - Airbus

Thanks Spur..

I assume Subic Bay goes Junior?

Hmm, no FLL bases...That means a life commuting...Not moving away from my sailboat and the next door Bahama Islands.

Any official or un-official age limit.?
