I poured and mixed...and smiled. Geez...I'm at a great company, with great guys, and being an FE is TEMPORARY. Its more temporary for some than others, but unless you just love your hometown trip or are an LCA, nobody stays back there for that long. Hopefully guys behind me will not spend 2.5 years waiting like I did, and will pass though much faster. I always appreciated the "just pass me the jug" comment, but I always offered to pour it anyway since I had the "desk of shame" anyway.

Yes...I worked HARD to get at FedEx. But I don't think I worked any harder than any of the other 4000 guys above me when I showed up. There were plenty of furloughed guys in my Guard unit that would have been more than happy to pour coffee...I'm just glad I had the job. If coffee is part of the job, then somebody please show me where to pick up the jug...

As an FO...I try never to ask for anything when the SO is busy, and I always just ask for the jug (vice "how about a coffee and 2 moos"). Sometimes I pour it, sometimes the SO does it for me--but it is always appreciated.

Not being smart, but if you don't want the SO job SWA, Jetblue, and Airtran are all hiring, are all great companies, and have FAs to take care of that kind of stuff. If you want freight stability and lifestyle, however, there are a few drawbacks. Being an SO and pouring coffee are pretty little things in the scheme of the cosmos, however.

Pouring a buddy a cup of coffee is one thing, making him pudding is another. Talk about "paying your dues" in the slaveship....On some nights I felt like I was working at a flying Starbucks! without the respect , ha, ha

This subject should be moved to the "You Gotta be Spoofing Me" section!

a little excited

As a non-coffee drinking S/O for the last 2.5 years+, I got to handle the coffee jug lots to include adding all the condiments the front two guys needed, but were too busy to install themselves.

A tip on the creamers: open them starting on the side away from you. Those little creamers get pretty excited flying around in a mighty 727 at FL330 and tend to give you a little spurt of their essence when you peel back their cover. So, instead of cream running down YOUR face, you have it on the shiny new S/O panel instead!

Seriously now, the coffee thang is just part of the gig. Suck it up like the rest of us. None of the new hires will have to lug the jug as long as we did.

When you open the creamer...point it up front.

Even better is the strawberry yogurt containers....they really make a mess....and it's that red/pink color....looks great on the back of the captains sleeve!!!!

What are competetive times for FedEx?

Are LOR's mandatory?

LORs are not mandatory, but if others have them, guess what? As for times, once again it is all relative. For a military fighter dude, maybe 2,000 or less. For a civilian, maybe 6000.

The times I listed were numbers I pulled out of my backside. The point I am trying to make is you are weighed against the other apps in the pile. If you are interested, apply. Keep updating, work on getting LORs, and aquire more hours.

Keep in mind too, that while LORs are very necessary, you MUST have an internal sponsor who is willing to hand walk your resume into his/her respective ACP. I realize that detail is not advertised on the website but that's reality. Should give you some idea of how competive things are. FedEx has a decision borad much like SWA. Not sure how often they meet but the names/numbers are racked and stacked. If you don't have a dog in the fight you'll go to the bottom of the pile...Harsh reality
 
I just got "walked in" for the meet and greet with my "sponsor(s)" last week. I was told that if your stuff goes into the "review" pile, the ACP's look at them on Fridays. I was also told that if you get selected for an interview, they will call between 2-6 weeks.

We are easily excited at 3:00 in the morning!


You know you are tired when you fall asleep between checklist complete and touchdown... not that I ever did that as a second officer!

On another note, I am 2 events from being complete in 727 F/O upgrade. I can report first hand that the training department is very busy pushing guys up the seniority list. Lots of new faces running around too.

It's all good.

Looking forward to pouring some coffee. I am highly experienced at stocking galleys, hauling trash, and loading bags... oh yeah... I fly planes too.

I fell asleep once filling out the landing card. I showed the captain where my pen slid across when I passed out. He said, "He11, boy, when I was a flight engineer I fell asleep starting the #2 engine!" His hand fell off the switch and everything.
 
Hush, you! Fatigue IS NOT an issue here. You guys just aren't professional enough to sleep at 1500 in the afternoon next to the trainstation at Billings.
 
Just heard from a lady who does the admin work for new hires and she said there will be a new hire class of 16 starting on Jan 3. Nothing officially approved after that but they are expecting another class of 16 at the end of the Jan as well. Just wanted to pass on the good news.

They publish the names (and eventually pictures) of the new hires on the internal website the day they start class. The SCP published a list of poolies and potential interviewees back when there was a pool, but has not put out any lists ahead of time since that I've seen.

Competitive mins for mil heavy guy? I guess it all depends on the rest in the stack, which is basically your question. I was hired in the 2000-2500 hr. range and I think that would still be a good range to be in today.

For military guys in general:

There is no other hours requirement other than what is posted on the website as the mins. I think if you have about what everyone else has for your airframe and years of service, that makes you very competitive. On the flip side, if you were banked, were out on medical, and had a non-flying desk job for awhile, your hours are probably low.

The best way to figure out if you are competitive is look at the other guys in your organization. For an Air Force guy getting out after 9 or 11 years, you should have aquired a fair amount of flight time. Keep in mind that tactical assets will fly less hours than strategic assets.

I hope I kind of answered your question. If you have been flying most of your mil career, you are competitive!
