Any word on hiring or meet and greets? Also, can someone possibly provide the details of the new agreement reference the new bases ie; Paris Hong Kong etc...? Thanks as always.

No firm words on hiring, but current rumors say nothing until mid '09 at the earliest. Personally I suspect that we'll have to hire at least a few once the next system bid shakes out (whenever that happens).
As far as Paris/HK, there's a very extensive discussion of it on another board, but it boils down to a minimal move package, $2700 a month housing allowance, and very little else.

Man, in Hong Kong $2700 buys you a shack down by the river. What are they thinking? Did anyone at Fedex ask any Cathay guys what the cost of living is like over there?

mid 09 now. wow it keeps getting farther and farther way. i don't think any airline can not hire for a year and a half hopefully it gets better or at least the rumors do.

Z,
My sponsor is telling me the same thing. When do you expect the base bid to shake itself out? Do you think that the age 65 rule has anything to do with the slow down in hiring?
Thanks.

The bid opening HK and Paris is scheduled to close Nov 19. Since the new domiciles will "ramp up" as they open, I wouldn't expect any hiring for unfilled vacancies until spring/summer 08.
As far as the age 65 effect, who knows? Obviously there will be some reduction in attrition (and hence hiring requirements). One of the big unknowns that will have a major impact is whether or not the new rule will allow over-60 SOs to return to the left seat.

i thought they were going to fill hk and paris with new hires. what is the feel on how many that are already on property are giong to bid one of these bases?

If I understand the proposed language correctly if you are over 60 the day the retirement change takes affect you are out of luck as there is no grandfather clause. It may not make sense but this is the government we are talking about.
